Default Wine Tasting in Temecula. Anyone interested.

I just went on a wine tasting get-together with another car group and it proved to be a good time. I thought we might get a 350Z group and head over to Temecula and try the same thing.

A little caravan over, perhaps a little sampling of canyon roads, then wine tasting and lunch. It should be a good time.

Anyone interested?

Oh and I just threw Temecula out there. Not to familiar with wines, so not to sure where else we could go. Temecula seems to be the closest option, but if there are any other locations, please feel free to list them.

I was there valentines day weekend for a hot air balloon ride. Very beautiful place but I didn't stay around for the wine tasting I heard it's great. I might be interested in this.

Can someone local in Temecula or familiar with wines suggest a location.

A quick search shows whole-day tours for ~$40-60. That would be cool, but I would be more interested in something that cost $5-10 where you get to sample around six wines or so. Something like that would put us at the winery for around an hour, which should be sufficient for mingling, photos and some wine tasting.

Temecula probably has the largest variety of winery's in southern california, there are alot of other cities you can go to but maybe only 1-2 winery's. Ive done some wine tasting in temecula and ontario, and would say temecula would probably be the best place to go, little bit of a drive though. I think Callaway is in temecula, and theres also this resort like place in temecula thats also a winery, I forgot the name though. Sorry couldnt be of much more help

$10 will get you 4-5 samples at most of the wineries here.
Normally people do the $15-20 samples that include WAY more wine.
Most of these wineries have a kitchen too, so food can be had for several more dollars. (one even has a smoke house . . MMMmmmm Smoked ribs!!!)

There are a few that are great, and a couple of them have AWESOME picture spots. We have one that lets us park on the huge grass field to take pics.

Next time I pass by, I will write the names down. (I only know them by location, not name)

And for those of you who want to look like a real player . .. bring your girl, and rent one of the cabanas in the middle of the grape fields. It is your own personal cabana, they serve you dinner that night and breakfast the next morning.

I'd recommend Thorton Winery in Temecula. Wedding was there and I only have good things to say about that place. A great place w/a great restaurant.

Thorton Winery looks good.

Tastings from $10-15.

And private tours for $15 per person with groups of 15 and more. The tour includes the tour itself, 3 wines, a champagne along with a bread and cheese spread.

^That won't be an issue. No one is going to be driving inebriated.

These tastings only offer just that, a taste. The glasses are far from full. One should be able to sample a variety of wines, about 5 or so without any problems. Some choose to taste the wine, then spit, but I just drink it myself.

On the last Malibu drive, most everyone had a beer at lunch, but that's another topic. Everyone is a responsible adult here, or at least everything that will be attending is, so this shouldn't be a topic of concern.

Yeah, if you're talking about sipping some vino and then hitting Ortega Canyon on a nice warm day in a sportscar...that's not the most ideal situation. Most people are responsible, but as we all know, not all are.

I'd probably be game for hitting a single vineyard and lunch. I simply can't do multiples though...for some reason it just wears me out real quick. I think it's the beauty of the vineyard combined w/ the wine....it's sooo relaxing.

LOL, I guarantee you can get freaking smashed at these tastings, especially after you hit four or five of the wineries in a row. Believe me, I know from experience.

I was thinking about just visiting a single winery. I figure we would be there over an hour or so, then followed by lunch, that's enough for me. But if you guys are interested in visiting more wineries, that's fine too.

What dates are good for everyone?

Temecula Wineries:

Generally I've experienced fees of $5, and pay more for the finer wines. Likely tasting 3-7 wines per stop.

Some parking lots are gravel, other people may be drunk and give you a door ding or worse. I always drive my SUV there, but for a Z meet up I'd go if we park together and out in the boonies when possible.

Suggest Wilson Creek to start (opens 10am) as it is in the farthest EAST end of Rancho California Rd and work your way back to the 15.

There are 6 restaurants I am aware and would recommend Pinnacle at http://www.falknerwinery.com/
Ponte (outdoors) is nice on a nice day.
Some have crackers, cheese, etc. that you can buy.

Longshadow is nice in that it has an outdoor tasting bar and live music and picnic tables.

Pick a date, make it EARLY (most open at 10-11) and see who can ride~
Drive fast...
