Not sure if there is a fine, but it's a fix-it ticket. Tie strap the plate on, get it signed off and cut it off when you get back home.

Tint and no front plates are not ref tickets. They are fix-it tickets.

My fix it ticket for the front plate came from the meter maid, and it was $30 but I believe its more with regular police officers...

I got a ticket for no plate, tint and exhaust. The tint and plate are correctable but the exhaust is marked NO for correction.........So I look into it and come to find out, the total ticket is $133 and all I gotta do is mount the plate and remove the tint, as far as the exhaust goes they dont inspect ****, you just pay the fine and if you dont fix it, you take the risk of getting pulled over again. With one exhaust ticket in 4 years, Im thinkin I will take my chances. Any other exhaust ticket experiences are appreciated, I have to clear this up in another week or so.

So, I'm driving home today during my lunch break and I get pulled over by an Escondido Police Officer. I wasn't speeding or doing anything stupid; just driving home. He gives me a citation for my windows being tinted and my license plate not being displayed on the front bumper. Now the plate I can take the rap for. I didn't get a plate mount for it when I bought the car in my previous state and I didn't want to buy one only to drill into my front bumper. I have it displayed in the front windshield for everyone to see. On the other hand, though, the window tint citation was just retarded. I bought the car with the tint on it brand new, and even with the windows up you can still clearly see me in the car. He didn't use any special device or card to check the tint; he just eye-balled it. Registered the car here and the DMV didn't even say anything about the tint when they checked the car (to which the officer said that I was lying ) Normally I would conform to what an officer directs but the guy was being smug and walked around the car a couple of times to see what else he could nail me for.

Are you keeping your registration in OR or switching to CA? If your keeping it in OR, then you are responsible for their laws, not CA. Keep it in OR and keep your tint/plates

By CA law, though, he has to switch to CA plates within 20 (or is it 30?) days of him living here.

I think it's even sooner than that. Like 7-10 days or something ridiculous. It took me a good month to get to the DMV when I moved back here and I had to lie about how long the car had been in the state. I believe they fine you if you go past that window.

I think it's 10 days also (too lazy to look it up).

When cops pull people with out of state plates over for a standard infraction, they will ask how long they've lived here. If they say over 10 days (or whatever the limit is), they add another line item on the ticket.

Here's the link for both:

Window Tint: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc26708.htm
Plates: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d03/vc5201.htm

Apparently you're allowed 30% tint in CA. Nevada does 35% which is probably what mine is. Still, how does a cop eye-ball my window and tell me that it's too dark? Is there that much difference between 30% & 35%? The entire California Vehicle Code publication can be found here: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/vc/vctoc.htm

I found this as well on the DMV Registration Page:

Fees must be paid within 20 days of entry or residency to avoid penalties.

NOTE: Nonresident military personnel stationed in California or their spouses may operate their vehicles with valid out-of-state license plates from their home state or the state where the military person was last stationed.

Fees must be paid within 20 days of entry or residency to avoid penalties.
