I prefer the Mortons in costa mesa over the BH location, but much prefer the Ruth's Chris in BH over either.

I feel the mortons in BH is too dark, but have always had great meals at the BHs Ruth's Chris.

You should also consider Mastros. No view, but nice setting. Costs more than mortons though and can get rather noisy, well at least the BHs restaurant. Have not tried their other locations.

Almost forgot about a few more places:

Splashes at the Surf and Sand hotel in Laguna Beach - Never eaten here, but heard good things.
Mr. Stox in Orange - Decent but not a lot of ambiance.

That's funny! They're owned by El Torito, iirc.

I went to the Arnie Morton's in Downtown LA next to the Staples Ctr for an anniversary dinner, and came out $400 bill... that'll probably be the last time I spend that much on steak that was okay...

Up to about 100 bucks without alcohol. No alcohol and you can get out pretty cheap. Butler is a great chef.

If you're coming in from Santa Monica they do packages to stay the night and eat dinner. Pretty reasonable and Laguna downtown for a day and night is fun.

Here's the menu:

In the mullholland dr. area ( topanga canyon )...Inn of the seventh ray is by far the most romantic place in socal...A little pricey, but def worth it. Sit outside at night time and its like a enchanted forest, white table linen heaven. When I went there a couple years back, I was like....
