Default Sobriety no wait...SMOG checkpoint?

So today I was on my daily route to work at around 8:30 AM cruising down La Palma through Buena Park when i see what looks like a Sobriety check point up ahead.

I think to myself...."of all times, they aren't ganna catch anyone right now."
However, as i get closer i see it's not a sobriety check point...But what looks like a SMOG check point... That's right, CHP were randomly directing people into another lane for what looked like a smog check, or a free dyno... But i hightly doubt it was a free dyno. lol

anyone else ever see this before? This was my first time ever seeing this.

Though times for Cali, CHP has gotta make some extra revenue lol.
Hopefully through this they get rid of all the ricers with the annoying honda esque exhaust sounds.

i've seen it once in walnut, and twice in hacienda heights. i honestly thought they were setting that **** up to get modified cars, but the vehicles i see them flag down were usually the older ones (old minivans, 90's accord, civics, camrys, and what not).

Yup pretty soon there will be violations for 1 hand on the wheel, road head, and no blinker usage...then they'll start making everyone wear bicycle helmets while they drive.

I have seen these all over. The easiest way out of them is to disable your car once on the rollers. Then blame them for ruining your car.

All they do is send you a letter saying you have to go to a test only center instead of a normal smog test center. And if your car is less than 5 years old . . . . they wont even test you.

"Random" smog check points have been conducted for a few years now.

From what I recall it was not a mandatory stop...unless the rules have changed (probably).

i've heard that not having your catalytic converters (on a newer car) is a ticket up in the $1000 range... sounds crazy i know, but you never know with these laws..

also, ive seen these checkpoints several times in the torrance, redondo beach, manhattan beach areas..
