Default Moving to the AREA.. apt tips??

Sorry this isnt really about Z's. But The Z community seems like a nice bunch

I live in central Illinois and am flying out the end of november to look around the Studio City, Burbank, North hollywood, etc area.

Trying to find a sub 2k 1-2 bdrm apartment in a nice area close to the Studios.

I notice when i search online i get the same apts... OVER AND OVER.. basically the ones who take the time to create a big internet presence. But when i use google street views i see there are ALOT more apts in the area.

Looking for nice area and nice place with controlled access and a garage if possible.

Any help is MORE then appreciated.

The only thing i have found i currently like is a townhouse at 333 Andover Dr. Burbank, CA.

Thanks once again.

Chase

westside rentals always has good apts... you have to pay a fee i think, like $35 for a month's access? not sure.
there's always a crapload of apts on craigslist.. i know what you mean that the same ones pop up all the time but there's a LOT more.. (i peruse craigslist every day).

good luck! just a note.. there are nice areas of north hollywood but there are SUPER crappy areas too so just be careful.. for the most part burbank is great (except for the cops) and so is studio city.

craigs list is great but you have to check it every freaking day. I used westside rentals.com; the fee was 55 for 2 months and the best thing about this site is that you set the specs for what you are looking for and as soon as an apartment with your specs becomes available an e-mail gets sent to you......give it a try.

I remember when I moved here and I had to do the apartment hunting thing......not fun.
There are a lot of crappy apartments for 1500.00 a month out here. My advice if possible, take your time. I will recommend Northridge Fontana Apts. in Northridge. Good part of town right down the street from CSUN. There are two buildings with I'm not sure how many units. One side has been there for awhile and the other was just rebuilt. The new building was beautiful on the inside and 1 bedrooms were around 900 a month. This was back in 2004 so I'm not sure if the price has gone up since then. I'm guessing you might not find them online but they're on the corner of Reseda and Plummer:

18557 Plummer ST
Northridge, CA 91342

Good Luck

^^he mentioned he wants to be near the studios though.. and while northridge doesn't look far away on a map, the 405 is a ***** to deal with.

i do always see really nice apts available in northridge...

never pay more than 1 month deposit. it is against the law to request more.

Yah the traffic and EVERYTHING will be entirely different.

I will try the subcribition when then new year turns over and i prepare to set sail.

Im coming out the end of november to look around.. 22nd-1st.

Burbank seems to be nice.. I used google street view to look around.
Studio city is also nice but i either find crappy places.. or out of my price places.

Definetly will try the craigslist thing.

Anyone hve a general commute time on average for studio city to burbank and sherman oaks????

Also is it easier to get out of LA in the morning and easier to get in at night or vice versa.

Thank you all very much for your input. Definetly try craigslist and the subscritoion site as the time gets closer. IF anyone has a specific apartment to look at that would be appreciated also.

Thanks

studio city to burbank to sherman oaks (or any combo) isn't very long... they're all in the same area along the 134 freeway... and if the 134 is being crappy, there's a grip of different streets you can take.

well it does depend on what part of burbank you're talking about. if you're more north, near the 5/media center/airport it'll take you a little more time to get to sherman oaks. in general though... travel time between the 3 cities is less than 15 minutes.

Try Loz Feliz, Glendale or Silverlake. They're close to the studios.

I went to North hollywood, encino, valley village, sherman oaks, studio city, and burbank.

There was nice new construction area in north hollywood that didnt look bad.

Any "pretty areas" near by to go look around?

Im staying in the OC area.... anything going on here over the next week???

Any input appreciated, thanks

glendale, la crescenta, la canada, and pasadena are all within a comfortable driving distance of the studios as well.

im pretty sure we've covered the nice parts... from burbank to glendale to pasadena.. to closer to the studios like studio city, sherman oaks.. hell even hollywood, it's not that far at all from the studios. if you're looking for a nice hotel to transfer to right now to look in these areas, stay in hollywood. the renaissance is hot, so is the roosevelt...and you're a short drive on the 101 away from the studios.
