Come over to my house :]

if you use a heat gun understand that you can also cause distortion... the oven is used to disperse the correct amount of heat EVENLY over the whole unit. depending on exactly how far the heat gun is away from the item being heated will determine the actual heat being provided... if you go the heat gun rout i would ONLY let a person who has completed this task without error cause practicing on your how headlight could be a bad idea.

bump.
Anyone in irvine/newport beach/santa ana area that wants to come by and open up my headlights with a heat gun? I don't think i should try the oven again, as people say it will distort or warp my headlights the second time. Let me know, I will pay how much you ask if its reasonable.

It is really not too difficult to open. Heck I think I done like what 50+ here and another 15+ on the Fit forums. I think you just need to put some elbow grease in it. Do what I do, if it is too hot use some glove or have a friend give you a hand while prying it open. I don't really have anymore advice for you. Did you read my DIY?

yea im pretty sure I read your DIY. I did try to open them myself. I preheated and set it to the right temp and everything, but it wouldnt budge. After a couple tries i just gave up. I don't want to try to attempt it again, because I don't want to risk failing again, and I don't want to warp my housing or lens. I really want to paint them black, but i think my only choice is to go to cincity or try to contact a professional to do it.

From the last time I check this thread, there have been over 60 views in a day. I am not asking you to help me for free, I will pay you a reasonable amount to just heat gun it for me, and I can bake it in the oven when I close it.

I did try it. It was my first time taking off the front bumper, jacking it up, taking out the headlights, and baking them. I couldnt do it, tried 3 times, but the thing wouldnt open at all. I did everything the DIY said. The reason why im not trying it again is because some people said the lens will not warp if I try to oven method again, so i need someone who has experience with a heat gun.

Go buy the "silicone shape" from mynismo or thenismoshop, it's going to make your life a lot easier when you try to glue your headlight back together. I forget what it's called.... Basically what it is is a premade shape of the headlight cover so when you glue your piece together, all you have to do is lay the silicone piece in and push. No need to follow the lines with your own liquid silicone and getting the job dirty.
Btw op go buy a heat gun and DIY. If you're afraid you're gonna break it, wait until next summer, go out, get a thermometer, and measure the temperature of your headlight cover. That should put any worries you previously had away.
