Default December Ski/Snowboard trip to Reno/Tahoe

What is the interest of starting up that old No. Cal. & So. Cal. get together by way of a ski/snowboard/casino trip in Reno/Tahoe this coming December?

It's been a while since our Vegas trip and I think a nice Friday, Saturday, Sunday trip would be nice. What do you guys think?

Do we need snow tires during winter? or chains?

Is it even safe to take our rides in the snow?

CRAPS is the game...

You're nominated.

This will be a social thing so I don't think it's necessary to bring our Zs, SUVs are more in order, especially with ski equipment. I think we will need to confirm whether chains are needed to reach the hotel. I'm not sure many people would be interested in putting on chains that will likely scratch and ding up the wheels. But, if you're daring, that's cool.

We've got a couple months to plan and make arrangements. I think I'll use the Vegas run format to figure things out.

The Tahoe/Reno Run

1. Please advise dates for December that would be suitable.

I'm thinking Thursday evening departure, Friday play in Reno/Tahoe, Saturday play in Reno/Tahoe, Sunday morning checkout and play followed by Sunday afternoon departure. That's a three night stay and time to ski, snowboard, gamble etc.

2. Please advise where you wish to stay.

Let's keep this reasonable guys so that we don't exclude anyone. I would say no more than $150.00 per night and I would prefer to go much lower if possible. Additionally, we need to work out a group rate as discussed below.

I don't know how many would care to share a two bedroom suite but that should be an option for those that wish to save some money.

3. Please advise if you are our Tahoe/Reno coordinator.

I suspect someone on our trip goes to Tahoe/Reno often and knows the in and outs of comps and group rates. If this is you, please let us know so that we can coordinate the best rates.

Obviously, you will not be fronting $$$. Rather we need you to coordinate the rate and we will have people call the Hotel directly to make their reservation. It is important that the rate not be fixed in the event a guest is unable to attend and must cancel.

4. Meet location.

We will set a meet location to leave from So. Cal. Anyone from No. Cal. or Nevada can set their meet location and meet us at the hotel.

Okay guys, we need input, so post away on this thread. I hope that we are able to actually have something planned within four weeks. Do me a favor and try to respond to each of the four things we need above rather than just saying, "count me in." because we need your input.

Lastly, please consider this a disclaimer of any liability for any accident, injury or any and all other claims that may result from this trip. I'm just the thread originator and not your insurer.

I will be in Reno staying with my parents for a few days around Christmas time. I think it'll be something like December 22-28th ballpark. After that I'll be in the Bay Area for New Years.

So if it happens to fall on those days, I'd love to meet up with you guys for a few days and do some snowboarding. I've been to pretty much every major resort in the Tahoe area, so I can offer some advice for where to go.

FYI, if people actually want to do boarding/skiing, December is not the time to go. Oftentimes there is very little snow until mid-January, unless you luck out and a big storm comes through in December (which is rare).

Yeah, usually not too much snow there unless there's a big storm. And from Socal to Tahoe, it's like a 13 hour drive! I'm tentative until details emerge. I'm not too big on gambling and will only wanna snowboard the whole time. 9 years and going strong!

Maybe we should move this to January? I bet a lot of people wouldn't be interested in Christmas due to other obligations. And, I wanna ski! No snow, no ski.

I'm interested, but I'll be tentative till I know the details... I may not be able to get out of work depending on the date, but I wanna break out my board! I haven't used it all year.

As for hotels to stay I wouldn't really mind.. of course the less expensive the better. As for times, I think the thursday - sunday thing is good. Date wise, Mid december - January would be better but it really depends on other people. Um... that's all i guess from me hehe.

I'd be in, but anything before mid-january would exclude me. Anything mid-january on would work fine i think. So my vote would be the weekend of 16-18 or the following weekend of 23-25. And I would suggest Tahoe, and either Heavenly, or Kirkwood.

Hey Sean, good to hear from you. Those dates sound good. People, pease post your preferences.

A 13 hour drive sounds about right and would be a lot of fun with our Zs. My only concern is chains. Flying in is an option. And, so are SUVs.

Where are all the other regulars? Big **** Gang? Butterfly? Sheesh.

Who's Big **** Gang? Anyway, I'm still interested now. I just don't want to drive my Z 13 hours to put on chains on my 20's. Anyway, give me details so I can plan my schedule around this. If it's on a weekend and not the weekend of the 13th, I'm free right now.
