Default got camera ticket...need advice!

my mom got a ticket from camera light a few days ago. my mom doesnt speak english so when she went to the court...the judge didnt give her any reduction even though it was her very first time getting any traffic ticket. My mom said that the translator didnt translate everything she said. now my quesiton is...

is it still possible for me to do sumthing ...maybe appeal or sumthing for a reduction of the ticket?

anyone who has experience with this plz give me some insights. i live in orange county btw..

thanks in advance for your help!

EDIT: for ur info my mother made a right turn on a RED light, which is ok as long as you fully stop for 3 seconds. one of the photos showed that she did stepped on the break...but since it was clear (the last photo shows that there's no cars behind my mom's car after she completed the right turn), she didnt fully stop for 3 seconds...hence the cam got her.

Doesn't make sense how there would be a camera mounted specifically to capture cars making illegal right turns when in fact it was totally legal to do so like you stated, as long as you stop for a full 3 seconds. Moreover, I don't think the camera would be technologically intelligent enough to determine the threshold of the 3 second rule. Usually when there is a camera mounted, it means that it's probably illegal to make a turn on red and that there'd be a sign somewherewhere on the sidewalk stating no turn on red. Sorry if I'm totally missing your story; it's 4:30 AM

at that intersection, its okay to make right turn on RED. yea that's why im so mad that they dont even give my mom a discount...even when its her first offense and first traffic ticket ever...

actually those sensors are pretty on point, if that sensor is not on for more than 3 secs, it sets off the camera, hence the reason for your mom getting the ticket, it can also sense when you're car is rolling (rolling stops), therefore you are technically not fully stopped.

Also when it comes to reduction in fines, its usually set or changed by a judge when a LEO (Law Enforcement Officer) is the one giving the ticket because if the case is appealed and the LEO makes a contradicting statement than the original, it'll give clause for the judge to change it or even dismiss it. But for camera tickets, it's pretty much black or white, it's usually the full fine or dismissed for a really good reason (I got lucky and got dismissed for mine)

Wow, I feel for your mom and that ticket. From my experience it is pretty hard to fight those "camera" tickets. My buddy got a "camera" ticket at a stop sign @ Cal Poly. He got off the 10 fwy about 2am (got off on wrong exit). Judge gave him the full price of the fine.

there is no "discount" on tickets... first ticket or not, it's still a ticket. it's like saying "oh, this is my first time killing someone, how about just probation."

it's hard finghting those tickets... they totally suck. sorry about your mom and the ticket, but there has to be signs posted before the intersection stating there's is a camera there. as for the 3 second stop, the sensors know... they seriously get you, sometimes they have a short video clip posted on-line so you can see yourself getting fukked by the camera. the best thing is probably just pay the fine, go to traffic school, and not get another tickets for the next 18 months. sorry to say, but that's pretty much all you can do.

Rolling red light was a fine of $173 so I got a reduction a year ago. But I think August of this year they increased the fine to be as much as running a red light going straight. I think you might be out of luck right now.

Is your mom Asian-in-a-Camry?

Because in that case she's automatically guilty. Can't fight it, sorry.

There really isn't much point fighting the camera tickets. They are civil fines so there are no points on her license. Usually, you don't even have to go to court, just send a check to the county and that takes care of the ticket. Cameras are not wrong very often.

Or a Toyota minivan

I dislike elder Asian drivers. They don't care for the road and drive at their own desired paces. 95% of the time in 909 and 626 you see a slow *** car, it's either an Asian mom or a rich elderly Asian man driving Benz S600.

Hah tell me about it. Though we haven't determined if the OP's mom is Asian, i'm going to give it a 90% chance considering he's from Orange County.

And before anyway waves the "wasis" flag, my mom is an elderly Asian lady. She's backed into my friends and I a half a dozen times when we were in highschool.

I'm currently on my ninth life involving other elderly Asian Camry drivers...specifically ones with a dent on their rear-bumper.

what intersection was this? what city? i definitely want to keep that in mind. as far as helping out your mom, there's really no other way. if you want to represent her, i think you have to file power-of-attorney to even do just that. how much was the ticket? you should just take care of that ticket and let your mom know to watch out for cameras. i hope that they decide to remove those cameras though, it causes more accidents.

who is the car registered under? the camera gives the ticket to the registered owner of the car, not the driver. for example if the car is registered under you and your mom was driving the car, the ticket goes to you. you can simply tell the court that it wasnt you (clearly it was a female driving the car and i am a male) and then they may ask you who drove the car and you can say you dont really remember. i do not think the court will try to investigate who drove the car. i have had a couple of friends use this method and came away clean. but if she is the registered owner and she drove the car at the time of the infraction then she is pretty much screwed.

Relax man, it was all in good fun and bringing light to the situation.

Not much advice to give in the tough situation your mom put herself in. Just tell her never to admit anything, not even to the officer that pulls her over. There's nothing she can say to help her situation when there is concrete evidence, unless the judge feels sympathetic.

Good luck to her in the future.
