Driving Lessons
Anyone is socal know of a reputable place where I can learn to drift and drive a manual? I drive an auto right now. I plan on getting a manual car soon and plan on tracking it. But I would like to learn before I get it and would also like to learn how to drift and other stuff, any good places?
uh.. just grab a friends pos car and learn stick with it... afterwards, sign up for driving school if you wanna do tracking n stuff.. which is pretty damn expensive.. or just find an empty parking lot..
learning to drive stick takes 20 minutes.. unless you are a girl.. just practice and you'll have it straight after a week..
I took my friend's Evo 8 out secretly and learned stick with it.. never told him.. hahahaha.. just took it.. stalled like 6 times on Fullerton/Colima intersection.. cause massive traffic jam.. soo find a parking lot and a good friend who can teach you.

I agree with m0nkie. Learning to drive it will only take you a few minutes, and then a few days to drive it decently. Just borrow someones manual beater and save a few hundred bucks by not taking the class.

lol ok ill borrow a manual car and learn it then. I know what to do, just never actually practiced on a manual. As for the drifting lessons, do you guys know where I can do that?
Buy an old beater and learn stick on it. That's what I did. I bought an old 240SX. Don't even think about drifting until you've been driving stick for a long time, it doesn't take 20 minutes to learn stick. It takes 20 minutes just to learn how to get the car moving. :P
The 350Z has a heck of a hard clutch for someone who's just learning stick, I'd recommend getting something old and worn out (but with hydraulic clutch at least) so that it's easier to get a hang of it. But yeah, don't learn on any sort of a sports car. Big mistake.
In response to the learning on the Evo post, I can totally relate. After I got my Evo 8, it was a whole new world of manual transmission, because mine had an upgraded clutch, and AWD cars require much more RPMs to get moving. It was interesting, to say the least.

you can try Fast Lane.. but these racing schools aren't cheap.. price can go up to thousands..

Bobby Ore holds driving lessons in LA too depending on the dates.. I think they still offer drifting.. but they are mainly for stunt/cop/counter terror driving

op, if you can't find anyone that will lend you their mt pos, see about renting one and make sure you get that $8.99 insurance they offer, that way you can have your fun with it and just walk away.
i would say the most difficult part that people encounter with mt would be going from neutral to one, after that, it's all fun. usually i tell my students to think of the clutch and gas pedal as a seesaw. of course, inclines are a lot of newbie's nightmares. if you dont want to feel embarrased, go to an empty lot at night; structures are best.
have fun!

it was a 1988 nissan sentra for me... lol... like the others said... just learn to drive a stick shift first and make sure you get comfortable with it in different situations. sports cars and awd cars like evo and sti's are not good cars to learn on either. just think... piece of SHIET!!! because if you bang it up or burn the cluth, it's not a big deal. lol.
drifting?? seriously?? not to knock that but i drove stick shift cars all my life and i still can't drift nicely. just stop watching tokyo drift or formula drift on tv mang... hahaha. do you know how much maintenance and money you're going to spend to have a properly set up drift car? just throwing it out there.
good luck. i love driving MT vehicles, but in LA traffic... it really suck *****. you're left leg will get a hell of a work out, especially if you have a heavy clutch in the car.
