The Costa Mesa Police Department kicks the buzz killing off with a DUI checkpoint at Newport Boulevard and Flower Street from 8 tonight to 2 a.m. Saturday.


Costa Mesa is also among the agencies participating in "Avoid the 38" saturation patrols, where officers swarm stretches of road frequented by boozy drivers.

Running tonight through Sunday, roving saturation patrols will also be held in Irvine, Cypress, Garden Grove and La Palma, as well as South County cities that contract the Sheriff's Department for police services.

Manhattan Beach - Police will conduct a DUI and unlicensed driver checkpoint from
9 tonight to 3 a.m. Saturday in the eastbound lanes of Rosecrans Avenue at Redondo Avenue.

Redondo Beach - police will conduct roving patrols throughout the weekend in addition to a sobriety and driver's license checkpoint from 8 tonight to 3 a.m. Saturday at an undisclosed location.

Harbor Area - Police will conduct DUI saturation patrols in the Harbor Area from 2 to
10 p.m. Sunday.

 

great I live in costa mesa, i dont plan on drinking and driving but this is going to add a bunch of traffic on my streets.

last time they did this on harbor it took me 20 minutes just to go through, its one of the busiest streets in OC.

 

damn!... its hard enough driving a modified car in socal... so yeah.. i'll have to be careful driving around fullerton and LBC tonight.. if anyone is down.. i'll be at the gaslamp tonight with friends
