Default Mechanic recommendation in Long Beach area (Car won't start)

While coming to a stop my engine died suddenly. There were no previous signs of anything going wrong.

1. Tried jump starting the car but no luck.
2. The dash voltmeter gauge reads around 12V but I have a fairly new battery (a little over a yr old). EDIT: Had my battery tested and it was okay, 12.XX volts.
3. All the gauges, lights, radio, A/C goes on.
4. There is a click sound when I turn the ignition. Engine does not turn.
5. Engine belts replace one yr ago and no signs of fray.

I'm thinking its the starter, but why would my car die while driving? The tow guy suggests its the alternator but wouldn't my car start during a jump?

Any recommendations/help is greatly appreciated.

It makes one click sound and I have 75k miles on the car.

I checked the alternator fuse - assuming its in the relay box adjacent to the battery - and it seems to be fine.

If it were a bad alternator or fuse wouldn't the battery be drained but the car still start with a jump?

Yea if it were the alternator the battery would just be dead. Sometimes you do just get a bad battery out of the box. The amps might read high enough but the cold crank amps are just too weak. And I have seen a bad battery just cut out the motor. A starter would have a sound like a weak battery but it wouldn't kill the motor. If you have a warranty on the battery have it tested and replaced. Its the easiest starting point.

It's probably not the battery. My battery cable completely popped off while driving and the car still ran, even at a complete stop (idling). It's probably not the alternator since you say that the voltmeter in the car reads above 12V meaning the alternator has been charging the battery. AFAIK, when Z's die while driving, it's usually an issue with the crank position sensor. Maybe the ECU will not start the car without a CPS sensor signal.

UPDATE
1. I had my battery tested and its okay...reads at 12.XX volts.
2. A friend and I tried push starting the car but that didn't work either. Could be that we weren't going fast enough.
3. I used an OBD2 reader and no codes came up.
4. I checked all the fuses, including the ones behind the battery and all are ok.
5. Here's a video of me trying to start the car

i can't see your video for some reason,

to push start
1) key in the ON position
2) Clutch IN
3) Gear in 1st
4) push push push
5) pop clutch out
6) Engine should attempt to fire

you really dont need that much speed..

other things to think about:
1) is this the original key for the car?
2) do you have an alarm kill function installed?
3) gas? lulz
4) check oil maybe it seized? (sad panda)

Thx for your input Chebosto...

I did try to push start the car that way, except it was in 2nd gear.

Gonna remove the starter next and get it tested.

BTW...I had my engine replaced a little over a yr ago at Performance for oil consumption so I fear it might be related to a bad install job.
