One of my side skirt is cracked from a speed bump. It has a crack near the rear about 4 inches (maybe?), one or two more along the sides and some small spider cracks in the paint. Would it be cheaper to get a new side skirt and deal with the fitment all over again, repaint from scratch, etc.? Or would it be better to try to remedy the cracks with epoxy or bondo/fiberglass, sand it down and then blend the paint?
It's only one side that is messed up, the other side is fine. It is fiberglass side skirts. Given that they don't sell side skirts separately, I would need to buy the pair. A pair of replicas like the ones that I have on the car is going to be $150-200.
I don't need show quality and given that it can be blended and be such a small area of repair, maybe that might be the best way to go?
The front bumper also has the same issue, small 3" crack on one side, small 2X2" chip and another 3X3" chip. Has tiny rock chips everywhere so thinking about repairing and repainting this one too.
What do you think something like this would cost? I dont need it to be amazing show quality, it is my daily driver. But it's black so blemishes or **** jobs will show. It can be B quality repair blends because they are so small in area.
Second issue: Are there any professional painters here that do side jobs that may want to make some additional side money to come and teach me how to do the repair and repaint? I've always wanted to learn, I've seen many youtube vids and DIY threads on people who painted their own side skirts, lips, etc. and I've tried it but it didn't turn out great. I would love to put in the work and labor, go buy the materials, etc. just to learn and maybe pay someone to come out and give me a hand and show me what I need to do. Just a thought.
