Those look nice. I've been looking at some lately.

Right now there's a GB for $300 for fully faired chinese knockoffs and $200 for partially faired. Not sure if the fully faired are the same as the one you got there though...

The one you got a pic for looks way different (better?) than the knockoffs, are they?

Hah, last Saturday, I saw a group of maybe 7+ guys in their late teens/early twenties cruising around on the sidewalks in Long Beach with these.

They look really silly when someone in a fullsized crotch rocket pulls up next to them, let alone a group =P

haha.. these things are fun. I used to have one and used it to just cruise around the neighborhood, to go to the store or the bank or to the beach. Mainly when I'm too lazy to walk. =)
You can still do wheelie, endos, and burn-outs on them too... hahaha...
I'm actually going to buy a new one soon later this summer

Oh yeah and I do have a '02 R1

LOL

Dave,

It's basically the best toy i've ever bought. It's kinda like those nitro rc cars, but you get to ride it. It's so much fun to set up some cones in a parking lot and race around with buddies.

I've heard theres bodykits and various tuning parts on the way for them this summer. Some guys are already getting pretty creative with modding these things.

Are they exactly like the one in the picture? I rode a couple of those in Laughlin last month and they have no power whatsoever and very poor at turning. The tiny ones like these are fast as hell and you can turn like crazy. The price is good though for the big ones. They are usually in the $600 range.

Chris,

Yeah they're exactly like that -- and you're right, they lack torque but they've got good top-end. The small ones are faster since they're lighter, but I find them to be really uncomfortable and difficult to ride on for anything over a few minutes since you have to ride them in a frog-like form/stance.

These are very comfortable with a full seat. I can even rest my knees against the sides of the body and lean forward, and i'm 6'1" 200lb.

Yeah, you definitely have GREAT points there. The small ones are pretty unconfortable for us "Tall" guys. A buddy of mine was thinking about getting one of the ones like you have and swapping out the motor with a 50cc dirt bike or something like that with a couple of gears. That might open it up a little more.

Wow, hadn't thought of a motor swap. Did you mean 500cc? If it worked, that'd be insane. It's built pretty damn solid, but I don't know if the other components would be able to take on that much power.

Let me know if he plans to do it. I'd love to see how that turns out.

No, just a 50cc since it's not much bigger than what's in there now, but it has a few gears. His other thought was a chainsaw engine, but I don't know if that would work or not. He doesn't even have the bike yet, he was just thinking of ways to make it better since it was so slow in it's stock form.

I don't think that he can afford to do either anytime soon though.

Well down here in SD the cops confiscate them. So we dont see any around here anymore. Before that though I would see a pack of 12 pocketbikes zooming around my neighborhood every weekend. The only ones I see now are at the local pocketbike/go cart track.

Those things seem like a bunch of fun but remember they aren't street legal. If you're not at a track or on your own property, you can be cited.

There's an interesting article about them in the new Popular Mechanics. Apparently the Italian made models are the way to go but they're not cheap ($1400-$4,000). The high end models can be modded to hit a top speed of around 70MPH and 0-60 in around 6.5 seconds. Not bad for about 14 horsepower.

I've got a 1971 Vespa Sprint Veloce with extensive mods and it'll smoke most sportscars from stoplight to stoplight. To put things in perspective, my friend refuses to race me anymore in his new S2000. Not bad for under 200cc's!
