McDuck is Visiting and needs some help!!!
Hoping you kind SoCal folks can lend McDuck a hand. I'm coming out to the LA area for a week (following Labor Day). Was hoping I could get some local input on a few questions. Any constructive suggestions are appreciated!
1 - First, the obvious... I have several things planned, but I'm open to suggestions to things I should do. I'm not a touristy type person so Hollywood walk of fame, et al. does not interest me. Things like the Getty Museum, Peterson Automotive Museum, and the beaches do. I'm actually staying in Ontario and will be in the LA area for 3 full days before heading to Vegas for the weekend.
2 - I'm hoping to cruise down to San Diego along the coast one day. A PCH drive is very high on the list of things I want to do. Ideally, I'd like to rent a roadster for this trip. Anyone have suggestions on somewhere to rent a nice roadster (350ZR minimum, but I'm also considering things like Vipers, AMG SL55s, or Porsche Cabrios). Haven't decided my budget for this yet. I know many cars can be rented in Beverly Hills. Relative to Ontario, how far is BH and in which direction?
3 - finally, anyone want to hang? Chances are I'll be around Ontario area in the evenings (Wed late, then Thurs & Fri). If there is a good bar/restaurant to hit, I'd be willing to just come out and meet some of the SoCal 350Z folks for a few drinks.
Again, advance thanks for any thoughts or suggestions!

yo...
Definitely hit up the petersen museum which is back in LA.
Are you flying into Ontario? If you are flying into Los angeles you can rent cars from Budget Rental car and they have nice luxury cars.
I think there was another place just north of the airport where you could rent lotus' or ferrari's.
man... Wed-> Friday... we can figure something out...
I'm definitely down for meeting up... but Ontario... wow that's far... I guess I'm staying at 350now's house on friday nite.

McDuck -
Ontario is the very far eastern suburbs of Los Angeles. It is over an hour's drive from there to Beverly Hills, which is due west of Ontario on I-10. But that's with no traffic. If you try to do it in rush hour (6:00 am to 10:00 am, or 4:00 pm to 7:30 pm) it will take WAY longer.
I think you should call ahead to the nearest Budget rent a car and let them know what kind of car you want. If you are flying in (LAX or Ontario Airport) you can probably get the car delivered there for your arrival. Budget charges a lot for luxury and sports cars. I know Enterprise rent a car is like $250 a day for a 350Z roadster, and I doubt if Budget cheaper.
Peterson and Getty museums are good choices. You might want to wander around Santa Monica -- the Pier and the 3rd Street Promenade. That's near the end of I-10 at the Pacific Ocean.
A drive on PCH between L.A. and San Diego is not what you want to do. I'm not sure there really is a true PCH down there. What you must be thinking of is PCH North, from L.A. to Carmel/Monterey. The part from San Luis Obispo to Carmel is especially beautiful. I'm not sure you have the time to do all this during your short trip.
Have fun!

As far a car rental goes, it may be hard to locate a ZR, but i would try (and bring a fat wallet):
Beverly HIlls Budget Rent a Car

Showcase Exotic Car Rentals
(800) 577-3451
3939 West Coast Highway
Newport Beach, CA 92663
Beverly Hills Rent a Car
Newport Beach, Beverly Hills

General links

Most airport locations of Budget usually have at least a Jag convertible and in my experience it's useally a good deal (<$100/day) if you can find one.
BTW, if you get an M3 or a 911, you owe me a race!!

1. If you like museums, consider the Norton Simon in Pasadena and the LA county Museum of Art and the LA county Museum of Natural History. Consider checking out the UCLA campus. For beaches, Malibu or So. Bay/Orange county beaches are nice.
2. If you want to do a PCH drive, heading north to Monterey/Carmel is a much better drive and view than south to San Diego. There is a restaraunt called the Brown Pelican, right on the beach in Santa Barbara that is definitely worthwhile stopping at on the way up.
3. Why don't you set-up a date and start a thread for a canyon run, a Hooters thing or a bar/Sunset Blvd. night. Actually, I think a Sunset Blvd. club night is long over due.

Thanks for the input everyone. For the overall week, I'm nabbing a 300M rental at the Ontario Airport. I was mainly thinking a one-day roadster rental for the PCH run.
Only reason I was looking at LA to San Diego was I could do Sea World then turn around and come back (I'm a pretty big fan of marine aquariums and have been told this is the best Sea World). Anywho, if someone can suggest a good destination north that is not too far, i could easily PCH that way. The Brown Pelican sounds like an option.
While I would love to meet up with some of you guys, I think the biggest problem will be that I'm only around the LA area during the week and I know most people will be working during the dayk. Saturday, I have an afternoon engagement, then I head to Vegas for the balance of the weekend.
Mr Twisted has started a thread for a group gathering. If we can coordinate, maybe we can do an afterhours meet somewhere on Thurs or Fri. I think a meet/bar hop might be the easiest thing to pull off, but if a group activity to drive up the PCH one day (for those who can avoid work), I'd be very game for that.
Keep me posted!
