Why doesn't anyone out here track their car?!?
im trying to go but saturday is full!!!!! I took to long grrr.
anyways, yeah clint i would go drifting in my g35 but even off the VDC is still noticeable, thats why i went for a base model Z.
i take my car into the mountains at least one night awake, and im not afraid to push my car up there, theres others up there that prefer it to tracking. The Z guys just cruize through the roads so its not as exciting.
anyways, im still prepping my car beforehand in the hopes that a spot opens up. does shoei make race helmets or only bike ones. im looking for one, but my heads kinda big so i cant borrow one.

I'm in the same boat as hatebobbarker, I just can track on Saturday and its full. I still would like to caravan up on Saturday to see hows it done and hopefully get a ride off one of you guys to get the feel of how its going to be next time I do track my Z. Somebody post on whos going up on Saturday, I figured we would have to leave early which would be better getting through LA at that time too.
omen68x, zman23: carpool, caravan, they both sound find to me.
I'd prefer to go early on saturday just so I dont have to spend money on a motel. (expecially if I am just chillin on the sidelines)

BTW, here's the response I got from speedventures about us roadsters hitting the tracks...
---------------------------------
Honestly, we have no idea. They may or may not hold up in a rollover, we
have no idea how they're engineered. We leave it up to you to decide whether
you want to track with the stock hoops or not, but if you decide to do so,
that's fine with us; it's your decision.

Hey Guys,
I do have one guy who has to pull out of the event due to a 'blown engine'
I'm sure we can have one of you guys fill in his slot, if SV hasn't already did so. *fingers crossed* Let me know.

1. Any recommendations on a store that sells helmets? Since fit is so important, I would like to buy it in person instead of online. I can probably borrow from someone for the October event though.
I'd have to check around...I bought mine back east in NJ.
3. What do you check in a technical inspection?
Check this link to download the tech form. It's a basic once-over on the car to ensure that everything is secured and functioning properly.

4. How early do these events start? Just want to know if it's just drive up saturday morning, check it out, and drive back saturday night.
Here's the event schedule they try to stick to:

If you wanted to sit in on the drivers meeting at 7:30AM, you would probably learn a lot. I'm sure it will be fine for you to sit in. We all want to bring as many people into the sport as possible.
Hmmm...well, I think you're missing the point of why certain types of helmets are required. Your helmet is probably your most important safety item. If you want to compromise your skull, then by all means get a cheap helmet. SA and M rated helmets are rated for different types of impacts at different speeds, etc. If you want to skimp on safety, a helmet is not a wise place to do so IMO.
Not trying to be a jerk...but again, I think this is the wrong attitude to take, and quite frankly pisses me off. Tech inspection is serious, or at least it should be. If you check off all of the boxes on the sheet without ever looking at the car, you're putting yourself and everyone else on the track in danger. I don't want someone's muffler flying off into my grill.
You should spend some time in, under, and around the car before you go to an event like this to make sure everything's buttoned up. I've seen many potential problems caught because of a good tech inspection. It's not designed to be a hassle...it's designed to protect everyone out there.
As for the roll hoops...I would think that the stock rollover protection should be pretty solid, and designed for high impact. I don't know for certain what its limits are however.
For all of you guys that want to caravan up...definitely come on out! I'll give you a fun ride, and think you'll really enjoy what you see.

I spent $70 for an open face DOT/Snell approved helmet at a motorcycle shop. I have done about 15 track days in the last year at Big Willow, Streets of Willow, Buttonwillow (why all the willows?) and Spring Mtn. in Nevada. No one has once questioned my helmet.
The tech inspection is nothing. If your car is not falling apart, you pass.

Adman,
Where have you been?!? I've been out to about 3 or 4 other events since I saw you last!
Are you coming to Buttonwillow?
Do you have brakes on order with us? PM me.

Jeff/All;
If you want to caravan ;
I'm leaving from Redondo Beach at about 3:45 AM Saturday.
Stop at Dennys icon34: (Before Magic Mountain) for a bite, (possible meet up with Clint) and then off to ButtonWillow.

They are notoriously slow, however ... so I'm palnning on being there around 4:00am and leave no later than 5:30am! Hope to see some of you there.

Jeff,
Finally got the 13-inchers on my car ... we'll see how well they can hang

Cheers,
Man, I'm really not a morning person. I probably won't be able to make it for breakfast at Denny's. Ely and I are meeting somewhere off I-5 north of the 134 (possibly in Burbank) at around 5:15am. Maybe we'll catch up to you guys?
