He wants to come to TX to save money on the house....not double what he is already spending out there. You can't get into Sweetwater anyway. You have to wait for someone to die to get into one of those homes. Avalon is filling up fast too. I still like Sugar Lakes but the homes are a little older. I think Avalon is part of Katy actually, unless there are two sections of Avalon. Avalon at Seven Meadows is Katy.

I can understand you not wanting to give the Z another shot but I wouldn't go S2K. Way too many great cars out there now to pick up a $30K Honda. I am sure you have had this discussion before so I won't bother you.

It is is 101 degrees in the day time, it'll drop to maybe 85 degrees at night(with all the humidity). There is alot to do here. The size of Houston is comparable to Los Angeles. Same traffic, same road rage, and same amount of freeways. By the way, there are no people riding around on horses with cowboy hats on. hehhehe..... Music is different here. We usually get main stream music that California was hearing last year...... Lot of stuff to do, though. Concerts, opera, dancing, clubs, bars, tons of festivals, & outings. You can pretty much find anything you want to do, here.........Houses are not cheap here. Granted, they are not as expensive as So Cal, but still not cheap. Women are nice looking here, also. They look different then Californian women. They Latin women look different here also. I would rather live in So Cal. I plan on moving to San Diego one day.
Wow you just gave me alot to think about, but really I can't wait to visit Dallas, Austin, and Houston.......hhhhhhhmmmmmm maybe San Antonio as well

What is the weather like in Round Rock area? How far from the lake, how big is the lake? I take it cops are not very friendly in Austin. They just think everybody is racing .
Wow small world I live in Saugus and a few people have mentioned at either moving to Texas or buying some investment property there, lately I've been thinking about moving to Texas in a couple of years

Well I grew up in Houston, go to UT in Austin and still come back and work in a different part of the city in Houston random semesters. I grew up out in Katy. This is typical Texas suburbia where you raise a family. All of them (Katy, Sugarland, Woodlands, Clearlake, Friendswood, Cyprus etc) are all fairly similar in that they all have new businesses and houses being built with good schools. You will have to commute but despite what people say the lay out of the freeway system is pretty good. There is just so much damn build up road capacity can only go up linearly while population area goes up by the square. Out in Cinco Ranch or by Taylor you can get a nice 3500+sqft house under $300K easily w/ some of the best public schools in the state. It’s safe and crime is minimal in a nice subdivision. Note that real estate is quite cheap here especially compared to CA especially in the suburbs but if you get in town to the nice areas it gets real expensive real quick. If you need info on a particular suburb area just PM I will pass the knowledge I have on.
Right now I am in Houston again working at NASA so I am familiarizing myself with the Clear Lake area. This is the side of town you would want to live in if you like boating and fishing. Houston in general is similar to LA. It’s really big w/ lots of diversity. We have all major sports except NHL. Weather is very hot and humid from mid spring through mid fall. There are lots of bars and stuff to do but nothing close to the night life of LA I would assume. The way Houston and TX in general I think presents itself is way less flashy than LA, however Houston probably has just as much money. There are lots and lots of jobs here. As far as car stuff goes, Houston probably has one of the best street racing scenes in the country, atleast a few years ago when I kept up w/ it. Plently of American torque to keep you occupied. The cops didn’t really use to care all that much and there was lots of organized racing around the city however they have started cracking down on it.

Austin is much different than Houston. Austin is much much smaller. My opinions on the city also might be a bit biased since I live a couple blocks from the University which is right in the middle of town. Lots of beautiful Texas women here and in Houston. Austin is a better place to be young and single IMHO (and a few other publications agree). As said before if you like hiking, biking and various things of that nature Austin has plenty of parks and creeks and is known for being a mini hippy haven in Texas. Austin is more similar to Socal in that it is quite liberal and real estate is high relative to other Texas cities (maybe ~1.5x as much as in Houston). If you are coming from Cali though you should be able to find a nice house in the nice area of town (west where the lakes are) for something that would still probably seem reasonable to you.

Overall TX is way better than California . We have no state income tax (and less taxes in general), cheaper real estate, kinder people, hot down to earth women and plenty of opportunities to make or create money on your own. Weather can suck here but the thunderstorms can be fun to watch and atleast you know they are coming and don’t have to worry about the earth shaking and your house falling into the ocean at any moment. Hope this was helpful.

lol texas is better than cali?????? Ok i will give you texas is cheaper than cali but it surely isnt better imo. California has a real beach (not poluted wastelands like texas), beautiful parks, skiing, deep sea fishing, disney world, vegas isnt that far, great twisty roads and citys that arent 4 hours apart. Oh yeah it has dessert too just like texas if you want it. Anyone who thinks texas is better than cali is crazy. Women are better, more stuff to do, everything is closer. The only problem is there are so many damn people and things are way expensive.

I find summer in houston hell. Humid as heck and hotter than any place I know.

For beaches, check out Surfside. That's pretty much the only "beach" I'd go to. Cleaner, for one.

Street racing? In the past, westheimer was it or rankin road up north..prett much dead now afaik.

Besides the humidity and having to drive 1million miles to do anything, I love houston. Have yet to visit cali so I can't compare...one's more geared towards the elitist (imo) and the other, well...

Speaking of austin, I'm about to bid on a bed on ebay and might be coming down to pick it up later today haha.

Lived in Houston for 19 years and Austin for 4.....go to UT. Austin is a nice city, usually. Ice storms can be bad, as can traffic.
