Default Front license plates

Just wondering if any of y'all have a front license plate?
All of the pictures that I've seen do not have the holes in
the front bumper to mount a plate. I believe it's a law
in Texas to have both plates mounted. Is this still true?

Look for "dimples" in the front bumper; thats where the front plate attaches.

Front plate is law in California.

Front plate is law in most states, but depending on where you're at depends on how much of a big deal it is to law enforcement. If you're concerned with it and *don't* want to drill holes in the bumper, then attach it to the grill with safety ties. There was a thread a while back where this was discussed and a few pictures were shown to demonstrate the look you'll achieve.

I know it's a $25 fix-it ticket if California if you don't have one.

Technically it's the law in Texas to have your front plate on, however, I've had several vehicles that were "cop magnets" and not once did I get a ticket for not having a front plate.

My guess is they're going to get meaner around Dallas with all those wonderful cameras at stop lights--if you run a red with no front plate, I don't think there's a way for them to mail you the ticket!

I'm not putting a fron tplate on my Z, and I'll see how long it'll last.

As stated already it is Texas State law that your vehicle have a front license plate. However, there are tons of cars here in Dallas without front license plates including me. While I don't plan to put the front plate on the car... I have been stopped about it while driving the Z and was given a warning!

from what ive experienced and seen in houston, it's something after-the-fact. if they pull you over for speeding and you give them a hard time, they will ticket you for no front lp, too.

Default Plates in Austin

I live in the Austin area and have 3 cars without front plates. Never had a problem. I refuse to put a front plate on my Z. The dealer took the courtesy to ask.

It is a law. Especially in the Dallas Area, down in the hot street racing spots you will get pulled over for it everytime.

It is a Texas state law punishable by a $200 fine. It's just not widely enforced.

Your dealer is ignorant &/or a liar!

I've never had a FLP on my cars, no real probs. I did get a ticket by a DPS a little over a year ago. He busted 3 of us for speeding at a *much* lower speed than had been called in, and they'd been looking for us all night. IMO, the FLP ticket was to bring the cost closer to the punishment we deserved. BTW, the court did not allow for a "fix it" dismissal or reduction.

I have 2 vehicles w/ out front license plates (my truck and my WRX) and haven't had any problems.

A friend of mine has a Supra and didn't want to screw up his body kit w/ a front license plate, so he got 2 little suction cup thingies with hangers on them (I guess for hanging things on windows or in showers) and sticks them on the window on the passenger side and hangs his plate inside the car. He's got a piece of stick on foam on the bottom of the plate so it doesn't rattle or mess up his dash.

So far every cop he's asked or that's stopped him told him it's in compliance because it can be read from the front.

*shrug* Sounds like an idea to me.

The dealer was going to drill the plates into my front bumper and when the saleslady came around the corner with the plates and drill, I politly asked her if she minded if I did it at home. She was sweet but I do NOT want anyone drilling into my car.

And I am not running the front plate. I may one day, but not soon... I am not putting anyone in danger by running plateless so what.

Do what I did, I got the strictly Z www.strictlyz.com front plate holder . Looks better, No holes to drill and comes off easy for shows and track days. The bonus is the plate does not even touch the car but sticks out about half an inch, cost $50 and my wife will ride in the car with me again.

... and in Texas, where it reached 110 degrees in summer, you will block off airflow to the radiator!

I have the courtesyparts zee bracket.

You just drill two holes in the grill and put it on.

I think the strictlyz adapter is too easy to steal.

My plate may block the radiator but no less than an intercooler would!

No problems so far.

I had my plate in the window in my civic, and they wrote it on my speeding ticket that i had no front plate.

JUst put the plate on, it's not like the Z doesn't look good enough.

After 2+ yrs of driving my car in the Dallas area with no front plate, a month ago I was pulled over and cited. Usually, law enforcement will use that as their PC (probable cause) to pull you over while looking for the more serious offenses like; no insurance, drunk, no reg etc. I know this from experience.

However, it is state law and you may be unlucky like me and come across a rookie or be driving in a hot spot notorious for street racing and cited. Be prepared to dish out $130.00 becuase that is the monetary fine. Luckily I took my plea to court with a sweet excuse, got it dismissed and only had to pay $10 for court fees. I can only hope that I don't get pulled over again though...... -Ricky-
