Default Maxwell Nissan, Round Rock - You overpaid for your Z

In my early attempts at finding a 350Z, I stopped by Maxwell Nissan in Round Rock, TX. I already knew what I wanted (Black Track) and was ready to put down a deposit. When going over the total price, they refused to remove their $900 protection package. I explained I don't want the package. It's not like I'm buying a prep'd car off the lot. Just take it off the damn truck and prep the car without it. I'll be damn if I'm going to pay $900 for wax and scothgard!! Oh, it includes 1 yr worth of budget type carwashs from a local place. No thank you, I'll wash my baby myself.

Mind you, in my search for a Z, a salesman in Duncanville, TX gave me some advice. He told me Nissan Corporate has put the word out to all dealers they can not add any price addendums to the 350Z. If I find a dealer doing that, he told me to call Nissan Corporate and report it.

Well, I decided not to buy from Maxwell and called Southpoint Nissan in Austin(35 miles away). I spoke to John Watson. They had a Black Track coming in 10 days and their protection package was optional. They took my deposit over the phone which is something Maxwell refused to do. My car came in early and I took delivery on 12/16.

Overall, the customer service at Southpoint was outstanding. The time I spent at Maxwell was a waste and their customer service sucked! So if you live in the Austin area and you are looking for a Z, do yourself a favor and call the guys at Southpoint.

I also have had a similar problem with Maxwell Auto in Austin. I'm younger (22) and went in to order a 350Z at Maxwell Town North. The lady I talked to was rude and said that they had taken all there orders 9 months ago. So I went to Southpoint they were nice and took my order right away. This was about a month ago. I went in on the December 5th order, so I should be receiving it about March 5th +/- a couple of weeks.

I went by Southpoint yesterday to see if they had any Z's. Some guy decided to go buy a Benz instead so they have a Redline touring model. I am still trying to sell my truck and as soon as I do I will put in my order for either the Redline or the Daytona blue touring. It was my first time seeing one up close and personal and I absolutely f'ing love these cars!!!!!!

I drove the Redline 6 speed yesterday at Southpoint. It has like 185 miles and I noticed some scratches near the door handle. Just check those out before buying.

185 Miles? Damn, Well I did not test drive it. I will not buy one directly off the lot though because I do not know who has been test driving. When I do buy one though I sure would appreciate if an Austin Z owner would accompany me to inspect it since you guys know all there is to know.

They really haven't told me a date of arrival, but they said probably March. I know most Z orders take 90 days or so, since they are coming from Japan. I actually ordered mine in late November. It went in on the December 5th order. Yours probably didn't go in until the January order. They have one total order a month. Not to get your hopes down, but I wouldn't expect your Z till April. January plus 90 days is about April.

I had the complete opposite experience with Maxwell. They explained that the protection package was NOT an option, and it WAS a way to make some money, but at least they were up front about it. They even got me my car 3 months earlier than expected. The two other dealers in Austin didnt even want to talk to me and stated that I couldnt pre-order and they are first come first serve?? (this was back in August or Sept.).

Break $900 down over 5 years and it is nothing! As far as the protection goes, I have already sent in a claim and we will see how it goes.

When I bought my Maxima 3 years ago Southpoint was VERY pushy and rude, they may have changed by now, but I am never going back there.

Sounds like a southpoint pressure sales tactic to me! When I was looking at the Maxima, they made me sign a piece of paper that said something like: "if we argee to terms today then I will purchase from southpoint" Well needless to say we didnt agree and I walked out after the "manager" placed the paper under my nose and said that I agreed to buy from them! Sounds like they havent changed.

It could have gone in that day. I thought that they were ordering on the 5th, but it probably changed to the 6th. You probably will get yours the same time I get mine, around early March. What did you order? I'll probably see you or your car in March. I ordered a Daytone Blue Enthusiast.

I didn't even have to sign to order the car, I just put down the deposit.

It better not be coming in march!! That would reallly tick me off. If thats the case i'm just not gonna buy it. I'll just go buy a G35 coupe or something else. I ordered a Pikes Peak White Touring model fully loaded.

ScottC,
depending on your interest rate, $900 can be *something* when you look at it over five years. Even if you do have a good rate, $900 is still $900 too much.

If you look around this forum, it usually takes about 90 + days to get the car when ordered. That is the average time it takes for ordering the car from Japan. I saw one guy get it in 60 days, but he was lucky. You might get it 2 weeks before March if your lucky.

Default Buy further north

Trophy Nissan in Dallas sold ten cars off their lot at MSRP this past week.
I bought mine out of the show room at Peltier Nissan in Tyler. They have cars coming in that are not ordered. Talk to Jeff Hopson at 903-561-7300.

Thumbs up

I was told 3 to 4 months when I ordered mine. Another guy backed out of his and it was almost just like the car I ordered. I was offered it 2 months before my due date and I took it. I had to pay a little more because it had side air bags, but it was okay.

I'm willing to bet that 3-4 months is the normal waiting period.

Dealers just LOVE customers who think in terms of $/month! Actually, $900 over 5 years is $1,019 @ 5% interest. I don't care what the terms are...you should always separate the purchase, trade-in, and financing transactions if you want to achieve the best deal possible for yourself.

I just left my car at Courtesy Nissan in Richardson. They have a Silver and a Blue track model not sold in the show room. They also have a truck load coming in from the east cost. They traded some of those new SUV's for them.

They are selling at MSRP.
