Default Do not deal with Baker-Jackson Nissan/Oldsmobile in Houston

Last weekend I went to look at a 2006 350Z at Baker-Jackson Nissan/Oldsmobile. The salesman I was speaking with was David Perrin. I usually try to give car salesmen the benefit of the doubt, but he was the perfect representation of your stereotypical car salesman. First, he knew nothing about the car. He said that only the higher up models [higher than enthusiast] have a key FOB/window down feature. I asked him about pricing, and he would not budge on MSRP saying that they're selling hot. He said that it was not up to him, but to his manager. When I asked him if they had Interlagos Fire, he said that they could get it but it would cost me $500 to ship it over from another dealership and that would be my responsibility. After a little more looking around the lot, I caught a glimpse of an Interlagos Fire sitting in their back lot. I tell him and he proceeds to pretend he did not know and then tries to make a deal with me on it. There is more to this story, but I should leave it there. Hopefully noone here will have to deal with this jacka$$. I would also like to add I have bought many new cars previously, and although sometimes not the greatest experience, this was much worst. What type of monkeys are Nissan hiring these days?

thats the usual salesman alright. my suggestion is to do a little homework, find out the dealer costs of the vehicles, and go into a dealership with a drive out price in mind. start around that area and haggle.

try Tom Peacock on i45 north. i got a GREAT deal there

one more thing, walk into a dealership and nonchalantly look at the Z's. act disinterested at first. dont walk in saying "i want a 350Z". tell the salesmen you know alot about the car, and point out things to prove you know your chit. if he mistakenly tells you something, correct him. pretty soon he'll figure you know all there is to know. when i was signing the paperwork for my Z the salesman told me that i must know about everything about the car. i was finishing sentences for him it was funny.

if you act uninformed the dealer will try and rip you off.

i know what u mean about dumb *** sales men! uurrggh . i had something similar happen to me at tom peacock nissan off of 45 north. first of all they didn't want to help me cuz they figured oh i can't afford it. then second of all they didn't even know what the hell they are selling. when i was looking at a z in the show room floor he was trying to tell me that it was a front wheel drive!!!!!! LOL and they mother*ucker try to tell me its a 4 cylinder omg! let alone he was being a freaking ***** to me, finally i gave up. it was funny cuz i broke it down to the saleman due to his attitude towards me. i said do u even know what u are selling? i broke it down to him bit by bit about the vehicle and the other different models of nissans der.then told the guy that its sad that he doesn't even know his own product. the guy was shocked that i threw him a curve like that. i told the guy that i send customers here cuz i am a loan officer and will report him to the mgr that we go through with my company LOL. basically he just got owned! LOL never deal with dem fellas and i make sure of that! LOL

If you're seriously looking at the Z check out Champion Nissan out in Katy. They will come close to dealer invoice. I've bought 2 cars from this year alond. Talk to Pacita, Mike Lindsy is the manager, he'll work w/ u. Better yet, let me know if u wanna go and I can meet up w/ u. If I go there and butter them up a bit I bet they can meet or beat any price out there.

I bought mine from Baker Jackson and they had it shipped in from another dealership at no cost to me. I had to tell the salesman the difference between the different models as well. I walked in with a set price and they came down to it. They also looked at me like I couldn't afford it. It's pretty funny when you walk in wearing a dirty T-shirt and shorts asking about a 350Z. Not the most expensive car, but not the cheapest either. But then again, I like toying with dealerships. Made one dealership pull a vette off the showroom floor because I wanted to drive it.

so when i bought my Z my sales person was terrible but i got the car and price i wanted so it was ok. b ut when i went in back to the finance guys, he was a moron. He had no idea what papers i needed to sign or what was included in my extended warranty. I almost actually did not buy the car because of this guys retardation.

I was O.K. with Baker-Jackson NORTH. Went to the internet sales guy. He seemed to know his chit, tho', why it takes 2 to 3 hours to buy a car beats me.

I will try the other places this coming weekend. Hopefully I can get a salesman who knows what he's selling. I've done my research on this car enough to know about the feathering, window streaks, and notchy transmission. Hope the next saleman at least knows what mpg it gets. Thanks for all the tips. Wish me luck!

HarvesterUT - I read through that site you linked. Good info.

I know what you all mean with the salespeople....it's very hard to find a good salesperson...It seems like they will hire anyone who applies for a job these days... I went to Tom Peacock and Baker Nissan. Tom Peacock salespeople were jerks and Baker Nissan salespeople just plain didn't know what they were talking about. I bought mine from Sterling McCall Nissan off 59 South from a guy named Stephen. He will actually deal with you and will take a couple of trips to talk to the manager to try to get you the price you want. You just have to deal with them.

Yep,
have to agree that Stephen, over at Sterling McCall is THE MAN.
He is who we send all of our members from the Z Club of Houston to.

For Z Service Work,
the Z Club of Houston Members usually go to Mossy.
Be sure to check in through Bennie Bynum (the Service Writer).
He is a Z Fanatic (check out his collection of Z Toys and Z Cars) and will direct your car to their best Z Specialist.

Yup, the Baker Jackson guy didn't want to let me test drive the car without him as a passenger, I was like WTF!! I'm not leaving my girl waiting just because your telling me they've already had two accidents, BS!! Drove over to Mossy and in less than 5 minutes was test driving without the sales guy, they also found and shipped my car at no cost.

I took the Z in to have the window brushes cleaned. They were causing grease streaks on my windows. Those guys stripped out a plastic anchor nut inside the door. Instead of replacing it, they left it there. When I went to take the door a year later to replace the door speakers, the screw just kept turning with the stripped out anchor not. It was not easy removing the def anchor nut. They also warped the arm rest door pad when they put it back on. It doesn't sit flush anymore. To top it off, the dip$hit tech parked my car without thinking about how low the front bumper sits. So naturally it rode up the parking block. Those guys are idiots!
