I think the deal is this: You get 35/20 which is legal. With that, there is a decal that "automatically" goes on the glass, very small, that tells the police, who have stopped you for some other violation, perhaps speeding , that you have the 'official' legal tint and they won't give you an additional ticket for that. Yeah, you can get darker, but maybe you can't be legal. 2 cents.

I doubt you would get in much trouble for having 20% on the front windows unless thats the reason the cop pulled you over. If you were, for example, pulled over for speeding... unless you are a dumbarse you should most likely already have at least the driver side window down and its not too hard to get the passanger window down in time also... I couldn't imagine a cop asking you to roll your windows up so he can check for the decal.

WhatEVER The original poster's question has been answered. Now I guess we can argue (or not) about what a cop might or might not do. For now, stick a fork in me.

20% on the front is as dark as you can go....as for the back you can spray paint it black if you wanted but yeah you CAN NOT get in trouble on the back window for doing 5% or darker

25% on all side windows, no limit on the rear if you have both side mirrors.

Actually its 25% sides and as dark as you want on the back window.

Texas never had a seperate one for the rear back door windows. It use to be 35% all around till 2 years ago.

This is correct for a two door vechicle, but technically you can go as dark as you want up to the drivers window, so on a 4 door vehicle you can go as dark as you want except for the drivers and passengers most forward window.

Dont shoot the messenger, that's just what I read EXACTLY off the site:

Side Windows
All side windows must have at least 25% light transmittance and luminous reflectance of 25% or less, over the entire surface area of the window.

*Rear (back) Window

* If vehicle has left and right outside mirrors, there is no minimum light transmission requirement.
* If not equipped with both outside mirrors, the rear window must have no less than 25% light transmittance and a luminous reflectance of 25% or less.
* The manufacturers installed glazing shade band is excluded.

Wrong....once again:

Please check before you give out wrong info. I don't mean to be an ***, but make sure you're giving out the right info before these guys tint their windows and then get a ticket and have to pay for that and re-tinting.
