Do Not goto Discount Tires at 59/hillcroft (Houston)
I went in this morning to have my rear tires swap left/right (due to camber wear), I purchased the tires from them about 6 months ago, it's got about 5000miles on it. When I went in, there was only 1 customer in front of me, but it took them 15min just to acknowledge I was there!! Finally this kind of chubby black guy came over, and asked me what I need. I told him I want to swap the rear tires left/right, and he said it all depends on the thread.. I said fine, since I heard this many times already, they just want to prep you to buy new tires.
We proceed to my car, and he said the thread is enough to do the swap. So I begin to tell him that it has TPS (tire pressures sensor), and needs to be careful. The other store has broke one already, and it cost $250 just to replace one. He then start to play this game that since it's got TPS, then it will require more lablor to do the work, so that it will cost more. I told him that it cost only $10 pre tire to mount, and I have paid "lifetime balancing" on it already when I bought the tires.. He said he will pull up the past invoice and see.
We went inside the store, and he pulled up my history on the computer.. It showed I paid $10 / tire to do the swap, so $40 for 4 tires. He then keep on saying that he's not sure if they can do the job, since it's got TPS. I told him to ask the tire guy in the back, and make sure they can... He didn't even ask them, and then said $40 for 2 tires. I asked him why? and he said since the TPS cost $250, by charging me $20 to do 2 tires is not worth it!!!
So he has to charge $40. I got mad, and was about to leave the store, then I turned around... asked him if there's a manager I can talk to. He said he is the manager.. (later on he changed his story, saying he is the assistance manager) Then I asked him, why did I paid $10 / tire before, and now it's $20 / tire? he said because $10 / tire is not worth the trouble.. I was thinking, WTF?? anyway.. I just tell him that this is bunch of BS and if they sold me the tires, and I paid for all the labor to have that monted before, including the lifetime balancing, they should take care of me.. If $10/tire to mount is not worth it, then why is $20/tire is going to cover the $250 tps that could be damange?
I just walked off and pissed off, and told him I will goto the w.airport / 59 store, since they have taking care of me before..
I think they are just trying to rip ppl off, anytime they can..
vent off.... thanks for looking...

That does sound like BS. I've been to 2 other DT stores and they handled the APS with no problem. Sounds like he didn't feel like doing the work so he included high fees to make it seem like an unattractive deal, hence making you go somewhere else. It's probably better you went somewhere else. It's better to have someone that enjoys their job, rather than someone that just "gets by" doing the work.

Sounds like he watched the Popcopy Employee indoctrination video. Were there signs of errant feces all over the bathroom walls?
Actually, will swapping the potenzas to the other side (remounted since they are directional) make the roaring sound go away if you have it?

I hate dealing with Tire Shops. It is worth the money to buy your own balancer and mounting gear just to never have to deal with them ever again.. (Probably cheaper over a lifetime too..)
I had had wheels damaged, Tires damaged, Un-neccessary work.. Its been a nightmare for the 10 years I have been Driving.

not sure if that was his name, I was pretty mad at the time...
I know they just lost my business there, that's for sure.. I will be going to w.airport / 59 from now on..
(the reason I went there in the 1st place was because it was walking distance from my work).

So lets say $4200 For the Setup with Jacks, Stands, Wrenchs & Tools;
It really is a smart investment;
Average Life of the Car 100,000 Miles
Balance and Rotation every 3K ( Lets say $30 at a shop avg )
= 30 Balances and Rotations (Minus the one you do when you install new Tires)
= $900
New Tires Installed Every 35K ( Lets say $50 at a Shop avg )
= 3 New Tire Set Installs
= $150
That is $1050 Over the life of a Car, Not counting all of the other Tire Related Maint.
So after 4 Cars the equipment has paid for itself.

unless the equipment brakes , since it's probably hydrolic pressured , more moving parts will brake. but not a bad idea. For now I'll just stand right next to them when they do the swap.

I've had couple of bad experiences with Discount tire stores at the Dallas locations.
Long story short….
It was a new wheel/tire mount and balance.
They ended up damaging 1 front wheel (Had a gouge on the lip) and 1 rear wheel (scratched 50% of the inner lip).
The repair units came back BUT I was not satisfied with the repair quality. But, they argued for hours telling me that’s the best job it can be done.
After 3 hours of BS, they finally ordered 2 new wheels.
After 1 week of waiting, they finally called to let me know that the wheels were in. To my surprise, they ended up ordering the wrong offset sizes.
The angry part is…I asked them "ARE YOU SURE you know what sizes to order"
