Dallas Meet III
There's a game park with a huge parking lot on Denton Tapp in Coppell very visible from Denton Tapp.
I think public places you don't have to have permission because its public.
This would include parks.
Any others??

Well, I didn't think the mall (initially) was a good idea based on past experience.
I'm not so sure about Bass Pro either. We might get some 4x4 pickups driving right over our little cars.
I wish I new of some more places in Grapevine where we could meet. I'm not too concerned about the publicity of it all, just having a place to ourselves. But it sounds like we're trying to do a broadway red carpet production here.
And we're having these meets every two weeks?

Come on guys, lets be realistic here. Your car is going to be fine regardless if its real public or not. With the number of people that are going to be there helping everyone watch there cars, the cars will be fine. That meet some of you made in Mesquite at the theater parking lot was an excellent location. Surely you guys have something like that available or you might want to consider that same location. Didn't cost us anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How about the softball fields near grapevine lake, huge parking lot and nothing to worry about......it's similar to what Mike is talking about in Coppel only these are off of a two lane road with the only traffic being boats going to the lake
Just want to throw a couple comments on the table...
First, is this a meet or a cruise? We keep talking about setting up this grand location and then at some point leaving it to cruise? If we plan to leave the spot anyway then we don't need an ornate location.
On the other hand, if this is a "BIG" meet as is being described then maybe we won't want to cruise. It sure would suck if folks drove in from Tyler, OK, etc. for a meet and found no one there because everyone left for an announced cruise.
So if it's a cruise, let's call it a cruise and determine our waypoints. If it's a meet then let's call it a meet and not plan to leave.
Another point...I think we are talking about two different meets here. One meet is a bi-weekly meet (every other week). I'm not picturing this to be a fancy or star-studded event. Just a gathering of the locals every other week to talk cars and have fun. Cruises and bar-hopping would be impromptu, and everyone knows what to expect. If long-distance folks want to join in then they would be welcomed one and all.
The other meet we seem to be talking about is a giant regional gathering in a substantial-sized parking lot. This bigger meet seems to need to be "on display" like a genuine car-show. And for this type of meet we WILL need permission to use the lot. The last thing you want is to plan a huge meet, invite people from all over, and have them show up only to find that the meet was cancelled or relocated.
The latter meet is on a scale which I think required a bit more planning, organization, publicity, etc than a few weeks will allow.
I think we should take a step back and first establish a regular schedule for smaller, local-centric meets (the original point of this thread, I believe). Then later we can discuss a giant meet.
But from the sound of it I don't think a giant regional Z meet is going to happen in any kind of organized fashion if we try to pull it off with such short notice. Just my opinion though (and we all know what those are like...).

You don't need permission from the mall either. If we just showed up and hung out for awhile if (and this is a BIG IF) they had a problem and asked us to leave we could easily pedal off to another location.
Just decide a place, set a time and we'll see who shows up. We get a huge turnout, GREAT! but if not, that's cool too.
Low key, low organization, no flyers needed. Keep it simple, folks.
IF however you want to do something that's going to need flyers, publicity, 60+ spaces and permission of an establishment with a parking lot..you'd better be planning a lot more than just hanging out. There should be an official 'show' with trophies, judging, that kind of thing. However, something of that magnatude requires more than a couple of weeks notice.

I agree with everything but the part about IF we have a ton of cars and we plan something big, to have a car show w/trophies.
I don't want to compete with fellow DFW guys' cars. I don't want to compete with someone who just bought their car and has 50 miles on the odometer. And I don't want to compete with someone who never drives their car either. But to have a show w/o winners is a good idea. Sorry, I got off on a little rant there...

The point I was trying to make is you've got to give some folks a reason to come out for those big shows. Whether that's trophies, a chance to win stuff from sponsors, or whatever there needs to be organized events.
Sometimes, "Come stand around and look at cars" isn't enough to attract a large crowd.

Anyone interested in meeting up at Plano Tavern tonight at 6pm? We've got a few of us meeting up there to hang with an out of town my350z.com member from NY.
Parker & Dallas Tollway.
You know, if you wanted to do something unique, and as far as I know a first, why not organize somewhere, such as grapevine mall, and do a drive. I'm not talking about driving just from one side of the city to the other. I'm talking about a mapped out drive. Surely you guys have some back road, two lane highway with lots of sweeping turns and hills. I'm all for hanging out since I can only make it up to Dallas once a month or every other month, but until you really drive your Z the way it was intended to be driven, you will really never know the kind of fun that is really there. I wish you guys could come out here. I could show you a hundred miles of pure driving pleasure.
