Default Current License Plate Law

Well i tried searching google but came up empty handed. Last night i was talking with some friends about our cars blah blah and front license plate topic came up. In my old car i got pulled over twice for not showing my front license plate, but my friends told me that a new texas law is in effect that allows us to not have to display it since so many new cars have no place in their front bumpers to mount them...i was like wtf...i guess. So if any one could help me out on this would be great, any links are welcomed aswell.

There are a number of past threads on this subject---also dont forget there is the new unannounced law that says NO part of the plate that makes up the total design can be covered by a plate frame---That does not mean just the plate number --It means anything that is part of the design. Notherwords all plate frames are unexceptable.
Another excuse to pull u over randomly

yeah well until they make decent edges on the license plate... they can kiss my a$$ i'm still rolling with my plate frame...

and yes you do have to have front plates... they won't normally pull you over for not having one... but if they do pull you over for something else, and cit you for it... they will most likely toss that in there as a bonus... i know from experience...times 2

WRONG!!!

Look closely and you will see the two dimples on your front bumber for the bracket that holds the plate. That's all the cop needs to write you up for not displaying the plate.

The bottom line being that the manufacturer did provide a spot to mount the bracket and they sell one specifically for your make and model vehicle.

I wouldn't risk the $80 + court costs.

If your worried about drilling your bumper there are aftermarket brackets that allow you to mount your plate without drilling the bumper. You can find one kit at the Z-Store (Motorsports).

Good Luck.

yep it sucks that frt plate law didn't pass.

i was pulled over after that aug 11th meet for no front license plate. well to me i just think he pulled me over just to pull me over cuz he had nothing on me. i wasn't speeding, everything is current, and only thing he could find was the front plate missing. its all good he was cool about it and i told him about having to drill into the front bumper in order to mount it. all he said was to get it fix and gave me a warning. he was cool about it.

The purpose of that law as with the frame law and everyday another 100 such laws is that they have the legal excuse to detain anyone they choose. How the lawmakers (our representatives) can allow this to happen makes me want to

i figured it was because they obviously know about the lazer jammer front license plate frames... so instead of having the cop try to distinguish between non jammer and jammer... they just outlaw all plate frames...

makes since but EVENTUALLY when i get my front plate on with the stillen tow mount adapter, i will get one of those nifty jammers too... HAHA!

Sticking it to the Man!!! One Jammed Laser at a time!!! Hoot!

The issue becomes this; they can use "no frt plate" as a reason to pull you over -- they then have a legitamate stop to look over anything they want especially if the driver has had any alcohol......... In our great state of Texas and especially in the DFW area, if they are suspicious or there are any tell-tale signs of alcohol there is no need for an field test -- they now just take you straight to jail and do all the testing there. GUILTY before proved INNOCENT..... you will at least spend several hours as their guest......

As far as they don't pull you over for just no frt plate, I assure you that is false; personal experience -- twice by DPS where they crossed the Interstate in pursuit to come after me and I was not speeding (afterwards one stated - "nice car") and twice by Ft. Worth PD --- no tickets but severe warnings!!

Also for those of us elevating the plate in the frt winshield on the dash(myself); this evidently will get you buy for a frt plate, but they can write you a ticket for obstructed view of a frt plate.........I have since bought the Stillen frt mount that goes in the tow hook but haven't used it!!!

My experience and my $.02 ----------

Aww that sucks. I'm planning on moving to Texas in the next 3 years or so. Why did Katrina have to destroy New Orleans?
