I will be getting my bike (Suzuki SV650S) out of storage next year and had an insurance question.

My current provider USAA got out of the M/C insurance business. I checked Geico and Progressive and they have terribly high prices.

I'm assuming State Farm and Allstate are the best for M/C insurance?

BTW, I only need M/C insurance, I currently use USAA for all my other insurance needs, nobody beats them, hands down. Too bad they don't have M/C insurance!

Thanks!

Progressive and such qoute high rates over the phone but if you go to a MC shop like Stubbs in Houston and let them run the qoute then it will be much cheaper. What are you looking for? Full coverage or just liability? Liability for me on a GSXR1K was only $100.00/Yr.

Full coverage since I am a beginner rider. My last quote in Colorado was $390 a year full coverage.

State Farm will not just insure a motorcycle alone, you must have another vehicle insured also. {According to my agent}.

Hmmm, must be a Tx thing, because Colorado State Farm insured just my M/C!

you didn't mention what year the bike is, but since SV's aren't that expensive it might be better to just go with liability and theft. You can pass on the full coverege if you want to save some $$

05 model, yeah thinking of just getting that type of coverage, althought I dont think you can have just theft, I'll check on it though.

i had a 2000 SV650. loved it. i moved around quite a bit and ended up selling it, but i wish i hadn't.

it's a great bike. really light and tossable. since i had no interest in popping wheelies on the highway, having the extra low-end torque instead of extra HP was really nice.

I live in TX and switch between Progressive and Dairyland. After a couple years of them slowly uping your rates switch.

I really suggest that everyone that uses their bikes get theft on top of liability... well unless you just ride and then park it in the garage

USAA is usually the best. Especially if you are in the military.

Actually for full coverage on a bike that is considered to be a sportbike, those aren't bad rates.

Try a qoute on a GSXR1000 and you'll see upwards of $6500 a year.

I couldn't afford Full coverage on my bike(half the cost of my bike a year), tried to get liabilities coverage with theft and they denied me... I had liabilities on my bike before that and I payed something like $12 a month(no theft) I don't really go anywhere besides work(which I park in the garage), and home. When the season rolls back around I need to find a new insurance company again, let us know what you end up with
