Thumbs down Houston- WTF is there to do here--RANT

I've been in Houston for a little over a year now(from austin) and I havent found a single thing to do on the weekends. Am very frustrated, got my GF here sleeping and its only 11pm

Took my GF out tonight, and like the past month we come home before 11pm completely bored. We tried everything houston has and always disappointment.
I'll spend huge amounts of money doing different things, all turns out to be a waste of money and time

Tonight we went downtown to eat overpriced food and watch a crappy movie, after that nothing, downtown is completely dead.
I ended up paying a news guy $300 to fly us around in a helicopter, it was nice but lasted an hour, its nothing to do again for awhile.

My GF is from Russia and when am there, people always doing something, last time we joined a mob of strangers, within 10minutes its like you known them for ever , entire districts all parting at once, all ages all types going crazy- everyones a friend when a fight breaks out, its kept friendly after its over, everyone best buds again and get drunk together. Clubs there are very different, fun for one thing and everyone laid back

Last party I went in houston I got in a fight with a drunk for reasons I still dont know, afterwards the guy called 3 friends because he was "disrepected", lucky I dont drink, so beating college drunks brings some temporary fun, but still results in some minor injury. Clubs in Houston suck, I can stand about an hour before we leave.

She is here for about a 3.5 weeks every 3 months (its a Russian college thing) and it a bit disappointing when the only fun you have with your GF besides sex is play xbox360 with 12y/o kids online, and she really cant play worth a damn

end rant, going to bed

the clubs do suck.....theres some ok bars. Im kinda out of that scene now but all i can tell you is you need to make some friends. Going to bars with your gf is the equivalent to stabbing yourself in the eye with a rusty screwdriver.

yeah, lack of friends is the biggest problem
between the two of us, we can come up with 2 friends and I think my friend is borderline gay or atleast bi, No one I'll hang out with, just at work.

I work mostly independently so rarely a chance to meet anyone

Friends. How many of us have them? Friends!!! LOL

Look it all depends on what you're into. There is somehing in Hou for everyone. What part of town r u in? Go to meets? I've to Austin plenty of times and it's great. But when you're in an unfamilar city it takes time and make yourself have a good time. I've lived here sence i was 7 and there are still some places I haven't been to. And if I'm spending some cash. I make the best of it. Drinking or not.

also one more thing. fridays are notoriously bad in houston for some reason. try saturday nights. much better in my opinion. as far as clubs... houston doesnt offer many. try the lounges out they are alot more fun. check out vinylpimp.com for more ideas. hope this helps.

Take her deepsea fishing. I usually go off of Freeport. For newbies I would do the one day 60 mile tour. It is loads of fun. Cost is about $150/person depending on your group. Great thing about it is you get to keep what you catch.

Dude, you gotr find a good group to hang out with..a good group of friends can make the most horrible club or bar the best. I go to this place in River Oaks called the "Roll-IN" its the biggest hole in the wall dive bar, but with a good group of friends we have the best time...give some of us a pm, I am sure someone on here could show you a good time.(In a purely non-gay way)

Well it looks like you sir are just a big time loser. Houston is the greatest place in the world and theres so many things to do. Clubs, bars, cafe's, bowling, pool, everything. Our city is huge and there's plenty to do. Go out and mingle and make some damn friends.

^^ perhaps am just a loser, would explain alot but clubs, bar, cafes, bowling, pool, everything arent exciting to me.

I'll look into the other recommendations, but I plan to take may audi s4 to an off road course somewhere in Louisiana this weekend, now that should be fun and will properly be the last time it runs well

dude I think houston is pretty fun...try rice villiage (college scene but still cool), then downtown there are cool places - not exactly sure about streets because I'm not from there but Red Door is cool, there are a few other places around there that always have good crowds. I pretty much always go to Zimm's when I'm there. It's off Westheimer I think? I know its a real long street but just to give you an idea. My gf is from there and she always has a lot of stuff for us to do when I go down there. Houston is huge and theres tons of fun stuff to do IMO.

If you can't find a good time in Houston then you're just not even trying. The clubs downtown are always fun on Saturdays...lots of fun bars in rice village/montrose/midtown for friday nights. If you're into cars there's a club for almost every brand from Lotus to Hyundai... If you're into shopping there's the galleria... If you're into dining there are TONS of good ethnic restaurants on Hillcroft and Bellaire... The weather is always nice so you can almost always play outdoor sports...
I mean WTF ISN'T there to do in Houston? Honestly I've been to Austin a billion times and there is a LOT more to do in Houston although I agree the club scene is not as concentrated as state street. You need to get out and make some more friends. I can count on one hand the number of boring weekends I spent in houston in the 4 years I lived there...

Well, I read through this and wasn't going to reply at first, but I can't help myself. I was born in raised in Houston and have lived here 27 out of my 30 years. I have lived in the loop for the past 4 years and you can only do sushi, ethnic restaurants and lounges so many times before it gets old.

I'm not really into the club scene anymore, but when I was, I hit every hot place in Houston on a weekly basis and you know what I found? The same damn people moving around from club to club as if we were a freaking herd of cattle, haha. So yes, it does get old rather quickly.

Now, that's going to happen in almost every city after being there for a while. But, Houston definitely lacks the vibe and personality that other cities, such as Austin have.

My suggestion, go out and meet some peeps that have similar interests as you. Any situation is going to be more fun with group of people.

Good luck!

jump in your car and bring your GF down to New Orleans for a weekend. Mardi Gras is coming here in a few weeks and it's only a 5-6 hour drive on I-10.. you are either gonna love this city, or hate it! Regardless its worth a trip especially if you or your GF have never been here.

Give me call one weekend, Magic. You, me, AroundMyHorn, and a couple of my buddies will show you a good time. Most of us have ladies, but we don't always bring em. Plenty of good clubs in midtown, montrose, West U, and DT. If you don't drink, maybe you should try it out in moderation. Drinking takes the edge off and adds to the fun. Plenty of hot ladies out there if yours starts acting up. Some weekends I head to Austin to do extra work for a consulting company, so I'm not always around to hit the clubs. Helps feed my addiction to modifying the Z. On occasion I have get-togethers at my house which are always fun. And if it ever gets too boring, I always have the xbox360 hooked up in the theatre room (120" screen & surround sound). Gears of War and COD3 look amazing in 1080p on a big screen like that. If everyone brought their pimp rides, we'll screw around on the street (03 Viper, 04 S55 Benz, Built Turbo integra, Built Evo, CLS55, M3, 06 Built SC Stang, Z06). We always find a way to have fun. I stay home more often now that my 20s are dwindling away. But hey, ordering a UFC fight on PPV and chilling at the house with 5-10 people is still a good time to me. You got my number...hit me up.

TODD - you do the same bro. Haven't seen you in a while. How's your brother by the way?
