Default 350Z Clutch gone at 16k miles

Anyone got any ideas on why my clutch is on the way out at 16,000 miles?
2006 350Z, 1 yr old; bought it new. Don't race *that* much; found this out at Houston Raceway Park last night. My 1st ever run at a track.

I did horrible, ran only once, 14.8 / 99.87 mph

Thats a tough call. And probably cant be answered unless I was a fly sitting on ur dash watching u drive daily, or without personally taking out the assy and looking for clues. Poor driving habits?? ( No one admits to it ) Factory defect ?? I bought mine at 15,000 and replaced mine within 2000 miles with an aftermarket. At 58,000 I havent had any problems.

Bite the bullit and replace with an aftermarket, If it fails in 16,000 miles, repramand yourself. If it lasts 50,000 miles, have fun.

The smell, and I let Matt run it 1st since he's experienced. He did 16 seconds, and said it slipped the whole way.

Knowing that, I didn't hit it hard, but on the burn out the pitt dude also told me he could smell my cluth?

You probably hit the nail on the head. I ride with my foot on the clutch, since I had the wreck back in Sept.

What is a good aftermarket, and how much to get it done?
I'm a computer programmer, and don't have time nor the skills/tools to do it myself.

Thanks

clutch is a wear item much like your brake pads, they are not under warranty, unless its a mechanical defect.

Nexx is right. You will NOT get the clutch work done under warranty.

There are people on the forums with 100K miles on stock clutch. What that means is you're doing something wrong when you drive. I've never seen you drive so I can't tell you if and what you're doing wrong, but our clutch lasts a while. I drag race often and I recently replaced my clutch with an aftermarket one. My clutch still had good amount of meat left and there's 48K miles on it.

Btw, why the hell would you go through the 1/4 mile reaching almost 100 mph if your clutch was indeed slipping? And 16 seconds with a slipping clutch is also stupid. Maybe both of you are still inexperienced with a manual transmission?

I just went and bought 2 new rear tires (replacement Potenzas). Found a side street and smoked em. No smell, no slipping; hummmmmmm

This was Matt's 1st time ever running a 350Z. Now I'm thinking he started off in 3rd??? When I ran on the track it didn't feel like it was slipping to me.

Oh, I'm 55 and learned on a 56 chevy 210 - 3 speed stick on the column, but haven't driven a manual since then, until Feb 2006. And I must admit it was a bit rough at first....

Thanks for the input.

driver her VERY easy for the next 500 miles....glaze should come off by then. I would do that before replacing the clutch. If you do replace it, go with ACT....

i think your friend burnt your clutch pretty bad when he drove it, the Z clutch point is pretty high off the ground, i doubt he got 16secs starting in 3rd, never had a clutch go out on me but i doubt it smells burnt from slipping... nothing to burn

Thanks for all your help and reply Fellas. I'll follow the advise and take it easy for the next 500 miles.

I have a short video of some of us from the Z Club Of Houston Last night at our site, if anyone wants to see. It starts off with my daughter, Teah shooting me and Jeff(Charcoal Z32 n/a), and then Ahmed, white Z 32 T/T against another red Z32 t/t, and finally Jeff and Ahmed. At the end is a 55 Chevy...

Post a time slip for that run and I'll try to help with whatever may be needed. From the video, it doesn't sound like your clutch is slipping. Your launch and and shifting could definitely improve.

I think it starts with reaction time;
.727
2.698
6.703
9.841
79.13
12.519
14.777
99.87
