Default CHOO-CHOO Noises from my Z

Problem (1):

No seriously... I have train noises coming from the engine bay of my Z. Sometimes they happen, sometimes they don't. Usually happens when driving in the cold (figures) But no noises when start up, only while driving. I start my car and let her sit for at least 5-10 minutes every morning before driving her to work.

It's a low pictched, sometimes high pitched air nose. Happens after I accelerate and let off (insert noise here).

I checked my intake. No problem there.

I Have a plenum spacer... should I re torque it?

My belts have been re torqued.

No vacuum leaks that I can see of.

Problem (2):

I no I'm not alone on this one... Kristi has this problem too...

My heater works great, while I'm driving the car (or whenever the idle is above 1500 rpms) but if I'm sat at a light idling normal, my heater blows cold.

Any ideas on what the above problems could be?
Thanks for any feedback in advance...

-Hal

I have a strange whine coming from my car, but thats only at 80-85 and when ive got my foot on the gas.... I am told thats just normal.

Your second problem I would take it to a dealer to have them look at it. I will ask the guy who works with me on my car and see if he has any ideas.

That wine more than likely is your air box sucking in air when you have it gased.

Maybe, but it happened when I had a stock intake, and also is happening with my Injen CAI.

As for the heater issue, sounds like a clogged or bad heater core. I'm sure you've checked to see if the coolant level is good!

Could be tight but might have a pinhole somewhere! YOu could try using a spray to on the hoses and seeing if any of it blows away.

You also may want to turn the car on, and let it run for a moment. Pop the hood and see if you can hear anything? Not sure where the throttle cable is located, but you may be able to give it just a touch of gas to help out if you can find the cable? I assume it would be near the T/B I may be using the wrong term's here so forgive me if I am confusing anyone.

only problem is... we do not have throttle cables... that's why you cant find them... our cars are equipped with "Drive by wire"

it uses an electronic sensor and "wires" that connect to the TB which determine how much to open the valve...

hope that helps and sorry for the off topic.

LayDZee, my heater does that too... i don't know why, it is slightly annoying, but it's not too often i'm in my car stopped long enough to notice too much...

when the weather's slightly better and not all wet, i'll take a look...

Hey you learn something new every day Thanks

So maybe we could narrow it down by seeing at what speeds (MPH, or RPM) it happens at? Could still have someone sit in the car while in park and slowly rev the engine to try and detect it if it happens per rpm and not mph... just trying to help

if its still under warranty, take it to the dealership and have them look at the fuel dampner....we see this happen on the G coupes pretty often....i work in the service dept for an infiniti dealership. on fuel issues at nissan i think your warranty is longer than the standard 3/36,000

You have air in your coolant lines you need to bleed them properly...

Llare has spoken, problem solved

***Edit***

Let me explain a little better. You have air in your system from either removing the coolant at some point or perhaps from the factory (it happens). What you are hearing is air bubbles running through the coolant lines, this is giving you the "choo choo" party train noise. The reason you only hear this when the car is heating up is because the coolant does not cycle till the motor is hot.

Next... the reason your heater is cooling is because the air bubbles in the system are causing pockets that get trapped in the heater core which in turn does not allow you to get heat into the cabin.

PM if you would like me to fix this problem at my place. I have worked on this problem a lot.
