Spend a little more and get the D5000. It's only $530 on Adorama for a refurb. If you got $600 to swing, get the T1i for $600 refurb.

Yea I was lookin at the d5000 too, but couldn't decipher the differrences, I'm pretty sure there are some but I'm a noob so I can't point out the major differences yet

Major difference would be the censor inside the camera, D5000 uses the CMOS censor from the D90, while D3000 uses the same CCD censor from the D60/D80.

Get the D5000, shooting HD video is quite nice to have and so is the swivel screen that lets you get some super low angle shot.

it looks like mckinney avoided the snow, but everyone else got some, if it snowed around you, how much and did it even stick?

It's snowing like crazy down here southwest of the metroplex. Blizzard like early, now steady snowfall.
