550$? WTF Why did you pay the dealership that for...
Should have gotten a blank key from eBay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2004-...s#ht_740wt_939
Key fob from ebay, I looked up review and these cheap ones are just like oem and works perfectly fine.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/02-03...#ht_2552wt_939
The fob even comes with instructions on how to program the remotes.
And the dealership charges around 50$-80$ to program each key.
550$ is INSANE.

$ 100 for the key Plus another $ 100 for the programming....and I had to leave the Z with them for like a day.
I still need a key Fob with the remote alarm.
100$ for programming. FFFFUUUU dealerships! This is how you program the key fob yourself.
Here's the sequence for the curious:
enter car, close and local all doors. Slowly insert and remove key from ignition 6 times withen 10 seconds. The hazard lights will blink to confirm original code has been erased. Turn ignition to the ACC position. Press any button on the 1st transmittor. Hazard lights will blink to confirm programming. To enter additional transmitters, unlock and lock the doors using the power lock switch on the driver's door. Press any key on the 2nd transmitter, hazard lights will blink to confirm programming. Repeat the unlock, lock step to program additional transmitters. Open driver's door, turn ignition off.

Q,
Are you talking about the Alarm & remote door & trunk fob ?
Because I was under the impression that the actual key itself needs to be programmed...it has a chip inside of it & won't start the car if it isn't programmed.
So tell me that you can program the ignition key....if not then I need to get the remote alarm fob for my back up key.

Key and remote fobs could be bought cheap on ebay.
Then from there you can find certain local lock smiths with lap tops that will come out to your car and program your 'keys' due to the internal chip OR the dealership. some local shops even sell the keys versus ebay.
fob action remote you can do yourself easy breezy as Q explained...

The key itself should be 100$ for the key and that includes the programming the actual transponder on the key itself. It shouldn't be 100$ for the key and another 100$ to program the key.

Today my 4runner turned over 100k. So i finally move my lazy a$$ and did few maint on my 4runner. Man...i was too short to doing stuff I had to stand up on chair...lol
Anyway...Jason or Jack or someone has an advice or experience.
Problem: One of my wire connector doesn't go in all the way to coil.
I took it to down the road and did full throttle. When it hit redline It threw me a CEL/VSA(?) and ran like crap. I found out one of wire connector was lose. I checked the problem connector/coil, it seems fine. But somehow it doesn't click it. But i just pushed connector and now car runs fine.
Question: Can i wrap connector/coil with some kind of tape? What kind of tape should i use?
Btw enjoy ugly dirty V6 4runner engine bay.
