Starting off at 20$ is going to be tough unless u got a lot of experience/degree to back it up.

I have a job offer in denton for 40k starting but it's between me and one other guy and he lives there so i decided to pack up and move down there and hope that i get the job, if not then i hope someone on here comes through for me.

Why not fly down there for the interview rather then packing up and "hoping" you get the job?

Because i want to be back in Texas and if i fly down there and dont get the job i fly back and am just depressed and dissapointed but if i just pack up and move i will force myself to find a job or get this one. Plus it looks like i will be getting the job i just have one other guy to compete with and if the owner of the company knows i just drove over 2000 miles and moved there for the job he may feel a little more obligated to give me the position over the other guy, where as if i fly down he still knows i just fly back and still have a job. Risky but worth it, Seattle SUCKS

Well tough situation. But how would you survive if you don't get the job. Plus how would he know you moved or flew down there for the interview, he won't give you sympathy because you drove a longer way for the interview. I would say the best bet is to stick to your current job until you can actually guarantee find something but that's just me. The economy is tough right now.

At least Texas really isn't feeling too much side effects from the volatility and idiots who handed over their houses over.

Good luck, I know Kroger/Tom Thumb is usually hiring and Baby Dolls or some strip joint has to be close to Denton.

If you're moving to the Fort Worth area try the oilfield. I dunno what type of work you're looking for or what kind of hours and all that, but there's plenty of money to be made in the Texas oilfield.

no, my dads just in the oil business. they sold alot a few months ago and made alot of money for the company. not sure about working in the oil field itself, but the business seems to be doing pretty well. he works in an office, business aspect of it. i think you could find some pretty easy jobs, but only if its the kind of thing you like. if you work a more normal job now, you may like working in the field. good money to be made though i bet.

I work in the mud - literally. There isn't a day where I don't get nasty. That's because I'm an Equipment Operator for a Frac Service company. I come home with oil, diesel, grease, mud, etc. on me everyday. I don't mind getting dirty to make the money. If you're not into that then there are other things to do, but that's alot of what starting out in the oilfield is. I have a Bachelor's degree, but I'm not using it right now.

I'm moving up quickly and if I stick with it I'll be a consultant for a leasing company (EOG, XTO, Devon, Chesapeake) within a couple years.

apparently my cousin worked on oil wells for a bit to make some money. it sounds like its kinda dangerous, but you should be ok as long as all your co workers are competent. i think he got his armed burned or something though. sounded like a great way to make some money, just not a job you would want to do for awhile.

Yeah it is a dangerous job. Just being out there is dangerous. I got into it this year just to save money to buy a house within the next two years, but I may make it a career. I plan to move inside out of the mud very soon.
