License Plate Frames
Well,
it just keeps getting more and more ridiculous around here.
I just got this email from a friend...
A new law was passed on September 1st , 2003 that makes it illegal
to have a bracket around your license plate.
Brackets such as; dealership, sports team, college alumni. No brackets are
allowed of any sort! If a police officer pulls you over for having a
bracket around your license plate it is a $200 fine.
Marvin Zindler & Elma Barrera both had a special report on this
Friday night. People are being pulled over and given tickets that had no
idea about this new law.
I just checked this web-site out, (below) and it's true!

It's so nice to know that the Texas Highway Patrol are working so hard at keeping the highways safe for you and me. I sleep so much better at night, knowing that my license plates are now unmolested by those horrible little frames.
Just another case of revenue enhancement from a state that has a 6 billion dollar defecit. I think we should find out who in the legislature voted for this and fine THEM just for being stupid !

In reading the article, it seems that if the plate in any way obstructs any lettering or numbering whatsoever, then a driver is in violation of this regulation.
The Z bracket easily covers the bottom portion of my license plate... stopped using it after the second day because my personalized plate looks funny with the very bottom portion of the lettering cut off by the plate frame. Also, gives it a sorta clustered look.
Oh and deficits... have you seen CA's numbers? Ludicrous!!!! And yes, they are doing things to generate revenue just like what they are doing in Texas. But much, much worse.

Gee Dave, and here all this time, I thought I was doing the state of Texas a favor by covering up the logo at the top and bottom of the plate with my Z Club license frame....
Wouldn't want out-of-staters to see that the State did not have the artistic sense to use the same logo font (or even complimentary fonts) at the top, bottom and middle of the plate! (I won't say anything negative about how at the bottom, the letters all run together like: THELONESTARSTATE)

Here's another law that went into effect in Texas. This should make a few mad as well.
SB209: Digital video disc players and videocassette players and video receiving equipment, such as televisions, can now only be used in a motor vehicle only if the equipment's video display is not visible from the vehicle operator's seat. In addition, creates an exception for video displayed used to monitor equipment used to service natural gas, water, or electric utilities.

You can have a license plate frame. It just can't cover up the top where it says TEXAS. Its the officer's call, like most other violations. If you act like a dick when you get pulled over, you bet your azz you'll be getting a citation
So what you're telling me is...
that I should be friendly and courteous when I get pulled over?
EVERY time that I've been pulled over (some deserved, some not), I've been very professional, courteous, and compliant.
...and almost every time, I've received a ticket in a very professional and courteous manner.
It's hard not to act like a dick, when your insurance rates are in jeapordy of being upped for one discretion (or less).
