why wouldn't your car pass inspection? last time I had mine done they told me if I wasn't throwing codes I would pass. They didn't put anything in my tail pipe they just hooked to my computer under the dash and rev'ed the engine a few times... checked my lights and brakes and I was on my way.

I just got mine done a couple weeks ago. I just drove around to different inspection places until I found one that would pass. I only had window tint problem, yours will probably be harder to get passed.

go to one of those old gas stations that have converted into a State inspection place...I think there is one at Alma and something else over in plano...I went there and it took about 20 mins...run by a couple of teenagers...I also have a code scanner that can clear your codes before you go into it....If you need me to and your over in Frisco area I can clear them for you

no CEL will pass an OBDII inspection, if you clear the code before you go you will reset all monitors and your car will fail for "not readys", you can drive around to get them back, but in doing so you will only cause that CEL to come back on. PM me and I'll give you some info about places you might be able to go.

get caught with an out of county inspection when you need a emissions and not just safety and get the ticket. best bet is to go to the ghetto areas and get it done or make some defowlers for the o2 sensors and the light goes away

yes OP, I have done that on several cars, and it has worked so far, cheap and easy fix, gets rid of the CEL and you won't have to clear out the codes every inspection (granted it's only once a year, but meh.

I ran an inspection station for about 3 years. If you are clearing your codes before you go take your test, it's true that you can fail for having your emissions monitors coming up "Not Ready". For 02 and up vehicles you can now only have 1 monitor showing not ready (2 for 96-01 vehicles) and still pass. Any more and it will fail the OBD test.

If you are clearing your codes for a specific reason, such as a p0420 catalyst efficiency you are likely throwing if you have test pipes, then you would have to make sure that your catalyst monitor was the only one showing not ready, therefore no MIL and no emissions related codes coming up at the inspection machine.

It would be a pretty tough thing to do, after codes are cleared the monitors come ready after the ECU has had time to verify that those particular systems are working properly. You would have to really have a scanner with you, or a really cool inspector that will scan it for you before the test.

Also keep in mind that a proper station will have a look under your car for the presence of cats and possibly fail you when they don't see them.

just google image " obd system monitors" and you'll see what I mean.
Hope this helps.

I have tried the Mechanical cel fix on 3 of my previous cars.. and it worked great.. just used the spark plug defoulers. I will be doing it to the z this weekend, I will let you know. Also i believe you need a drill press to drill a whole through the first one.

It takes LITERALLY - 2 mins (and thats stretching it)...I would at least try it cause mine takes AWHILE to come back. I only have an issue cause Im too lazy to fix my gaskets.. so mine pops up every once in awhile - certainly stays off for more than 2 wks at a time..
