Thought you guys might be interested to know that the standard of the industry has changed.
Like the ’55 Chevy, the 3,000-Mile Oil Change Is Pretty Much History !
“There was a time when the 3,000 miles was a good guideline,” said Philip Reed, senior consumer advice editor for the car site Edmunds.com. “But it’s no longer true for any car bought in the last seven or eight years.”
Oil chemistry and engine technology have improved to the point that most cars can go several thousand more miles before changing the oil, Mr. Reed said. A better average, he said, would be 7,500 between oil changes, and sometimes up to 10,000 miles or more.

Wow I change my oil every 5000 miles and I always thought I was kinda pushing it. Good to know. I'll probably still do it every 5000 though just cuz my motor has 108k miles on it.
Oil change is 20-30 bucks, an engine is expensive. I run castrol syn and that ill change every 7500, even though its supposed to be good for 15k. My rational is the Z isn't my DD and I beat the brakes off it.

Yeah guys, I was just putting that out there because most people that just drive a Camry or something as a DD can probably fall into this category. Mostly the general public that don't rev the engine up very high I would think. However, most of us know that with the higher performance cars we need to stay on top of the fluids at all times. So I'm the same as all of you.....I will change my Oil as I feel needed, as per my driving habits for that period of time. Like when I go to an Autocross...It will get changed after.
It just goes to show you how much better the engines are these days and how much more efficient they are as well.

Actually I'm almost positive I read a while back that the new 2011 mustangs only need oil changes every 10k but they attributed that to a deeper/higher capacity oil pan as well as the new technological improvements in engines and engine oil. My gf is actually about to buy a new 5.0. I'm going to feel extremely inadequate in an NA z
If you guys really want to be sure, send off a sample to Blackstone Labs and have them do a TBN report on your oil. Its like $10 bucks and they'll tell you how long you can safely run the oil in your specific engine before change.
I do mine every 4K with castrol full synthetic. I send it Blackstone Labs and have them do a TBN report. They keep telling me to take it out to 5K.
I alway thought the every 3K was a bit dated. Good info will share with friends.

If you go here, you can request a free testing kit. They'll include the instructions at to where to ship it and how to pay for it. $25 for the analysis and an extra $10 if you want a TBN.

As Clint Eastwood says, " A man's got to know his limitations. " Same goes for your Oil....it's good to know how long or far you can go before you reach your limitations.
I do the every 3k thing too (not becuase it's needed, but because the oil industry has convinced everyone that oil changes are needed every 3k miles -- and they are not), just in case I ever need to sell one of my babies that won't be an issue. IMO, the Z is more than capable of going 5-7k miles w/o oil change. You guys really can't believe engines are that fragile--they aren't.
