$100 fine.

Travis county just took a sizable bite out of my *** for the infraction of not having a front license plate. This was a sideshow offense to speeding, which got me pulled over in the first place. The officer seemed to think this is a waivable offense, it's not, no mercy.

I followed the advice of this thread for affixing the plate without drilling anything or marring the paint:

To add insult to injury the municipal office was CLOSED from 12:00 to 12:30 for a "Staff Meeting". Thanks, bureadrones, for having your meeting during lunch when all the rest of us are most likely to need your services.

Man, I live in Austin also, and I've been fortunate enough to not have gotten pulled over for that yet. I would throw up if I had to put a front plate on...I think that it completly ruins the look of the car...YUCK!

 

Thankfully, I don't think the cops around here are in the business of pulling people over for just the front plate infraction. I actually asked the deputy who pulled me over about the new license plate frame law (frame can not obscure any of the letters/numbers or the word Texas), and she said she doesn't write tickets for that.

However, they will pile it on with a speeding ticket. The only time I've seen APD handing out tickets for the front LP is when they're breaking up the modified car meets Saturday night and harassing people for clear lenses, etc, etc.

I'm not happy about the look of the car with the plate, but $100 is one hell of a stupid tax. I used toggle bolts so I can get it off easily enough.
