Default No Front License Plate in Texas Law needs your help

Rep Fred Brown of Bryan has started a bill, HB 1068, to do away with the requirement for a front license plate in Texas.

Its going to be an uphill battle, but car groups like my350Z can help make it happen.

A member of the forum and fellow Z owner has talked to the Transportation Committee Chairman who assured him he would give the bill a fair hearing and make DPS show the real law enforcement need.

We need all Texas my350Z members to send letters, emails, phone calls, whatever, to their reps/senators and get other car clubs and their members to do the same. We especially need to work the Transportation Committee members. Bill tracking/members/etc available at : www.house.state.tx.us

We have seen opposition like Rep. Vicki Truitt and Senator Craig Estes, so if they are in your voter district you should let them know you don't appreciate their opposition. We need to be prepared to have some folks from around the state go to Austin to testify when the bill is set for a committee hearing.

no offense but these things come up every 2 months or so... since i started driving 7 years ago and nothing has changed or happened yet. As long as Texas Continues to make extra money for siting individuals for no front plates this will not go away.

No Offense, but we are working with a former state rep in this effort, so we at least have someone who knows the players and the process.

We have a real bill in the works, not just talk.

And FYI its not the ticket revenue at issue, its the companies who make the reflective film who stand to loose the most money and they have a strong lobbyist and give lots of money to DPS to get their support.

Yea they won't work. Don't care anymore.

There was a REP a few years ago and it fell through as well.

Will never pass cause it gives law enforcement "probably cause" to pull a car over. Same as the tint law(s) and such. Petty law(s) like these more than often help get larger penalty criminals off the road & behind bars. Just consider it a road tax if you get the ticket. Nine times outta ten, if you are polite and not breaking any other law(s), they'll most likely let you go. Front plate gay, yes, but if it means getting a child molester in jail I'm for the law.

BTW: I've been driving my car w/o a front plate since I bought it in Oct '05 and only been stopped once with that being the offense. Officer let me go.

I would love to see this go away..hate having to have a front plate..been pulled 4 times for it..ticketed once and it was dismissed after I bought a "fold under" plate holder and took a pic of it and showed it to the judge...that was BEFORE I got the amuse front end...certainly NOT drilling that bumper...

Thats funny, Bryan is where I got pulled over for no front license plate, twice...I've only received one ticket for front plate & it got thrown out. A buddy of mine is a DPS trooper & said just put it in the trunk so that way when they ask it won't look like you were trying to break the law.

I think they don't want to do away with the front plate because it is what they use to shoot you with laser to check your speed...

I have never had issues for not having a front plate. Good luck, but the chance of this bill being passed is slim to none...

Gotten a ticket twice for this in Arlington (been stopped 4 times altogether). I just photohop a front license plate, and pay the $10 dollars and call it a day.

Hahaha that's what I've done.

Also, I just keep the plate in the car and when theyvask, I say, "Officer I just purchased this own bumper from Nissan, and its not made for the US plates, so I'm waiting a bracket from Japan"

because alot of people dont wanna drill into their bumper if they didn have too. and since I have HID foglights built into the OEM grill, this posed a problem.

wtf? Most cars already has a hole in the bumper for license plate. No one is asking you to drill anything it already came pre drilled or has a license plate bracket. Don't give me that stupid crap.

Who put fog lights right in the center of the front bumper anyways?
