testpipes in N. Texas area?
I was wondering if anyone local has a Z with testpipes w/stock exhuast? If so I would like to hear how it sounds. I am interested in buying them, but need to decide if I should get the ones with resonators or not.
I used a set of test pipes on my stock exhaust... no difference in sound EXCEPT for the range between 3k and 3.6k rpms. In that range you hear a tinny, raspy, wheezing sound.... very noticible inside the car and my wife said she could hear me about a mile away when she followed me home from the shop that installed the pipes.
The pipes give good power in the middle rpm range, so I use them at the race track, but I put the stock cats back on after track events.
My next purchase will be Random Technology hi-flow cats. Just as much power as I'm getting now, but without the tinny, raspy, wheezing... and I can put them on once and forget about them instead of swapping for 8 track events a year.
If you decide you want cat pipes... I'll sell you mine for $200. I'm in Houston, but I'll be up in the Dallas area for Christmas.

I'm not saying it sounds bad.... just that it makes that sound. Some people may not like it. Just be aware that once you remove the cats and add the straight pipes, you will create a new resonance in the exhaust system that makes that sound.
