Default 350z Ecu

Has anyone out there heard anything about an updated ECU Program for our cars? A friend sent me an email about this topic and asked if I knew anything about it.....duh....news to me

He said his VIN # is 001890 and his service Dude told him that there had been 2 updates since his car's birthday.
The dealership did it for free and he claims his car drove a WHOLE lot better...and he was happy with it BEFORE the update

My VIN # is slightly lower, so I guess that would involve me too, just haven't had the time to drive up to the dealership to have it done.
Has anyone else done this yet, or am I just waaaay late to the game (again)?
Thanks,
zcardave

Hey Dave... it's not unheard of for the factory to send out cars while they are still tweaking the electronics. The first MINIs were delivered this way and owners get an ECU reflash during a service appointment.

I have not heard of anything like this for the Z. You might want to try this post in the Engine/Drivetrain forum. The guys from Performance Nissan dealership in California are on there a lot and they keep us all up-to-date on news items.... they might know something.

Hope that helps,

Cheers,

PeteH

You can have a service tech check your ECU firmware version via CONSULT-II. I flashed mine in June last year w/ version CD-002.

It takes about 20 minutes to flash your ECU through the OBD-II port w/ CONSULT-II.

Michael.

The people at Ultimate Z told me about this reflash. Does anyone know what changes were made? Emissions, fuel economy or performance? Would Technosquare know?

Went back to my dealership a couple of weeks ago.
They told me that the ECU thing was a service bulletin.
It is a guideline for the mechanic (uh...excuse me...technition) to try when a car is brought in running badly.
He said that if the car is running fine (which mine is), not to worry about it.

Then we got on the subject of the front-end, tire cupping problem.
Just an FYI (his version). They have replaced front A-Arms and set alignments, and change out tires, only to have the car come back about 8,000 miles later with the same problem.
He claims that when the owner changes the tires to a different tire (even a different style of Bridgestone), the problem goes away. He thinks its the tires, not the car.

I just don't know anymore...

Interesting info on the ECU. Why would they want all the cars to have the latest updates? If the updates are ECU revisions and not just case by case manual changes, then it would seem that it would be best to have the latest. Like having the most recent BIOS/Driver for your computer.

I can say the different tire thing has been played out more than a few times. Mine with S-03s had the same problem as with the RE040s.
