Houston Raceway Park
Hey guys. Check out the Houston Raceway Park in Baytown. Starting in May, on Thursday Nights (Sports Compact Night) they're haveing 4 and six cylinder only night. Also a chance to when a trophy. 15 bucks to race 8 to watch. Check it out under the calander atwww.houstonraceway.com
I had heard that it was starting in March...but looking at their calander it says May. I live in Baytown, I think I'll go and find out for sure when it starts-if it hasn't already.
Anyone interested in starting a Houston based Z club??? Maybe meet on the weekends....or even meet up on Thursdays, eat then drive to the Raceway Park for some action.
Just a thought.
Just a thought.

No you don't know who you're talking about !
I was president of the Z Club of Houston for almost 10 yrs. and it infuriates me when I read stuff like this !
Have you ever been to our website? We try to host one or more activities every month, and we try to be diversified enough to offer something for everybody.
Mods? We've got everything from an International Award Winning 240Z that has graced book/magazine covers to 350Z's that are presently being modified.
We're not into racing? We've got an informal race team that is at Texas World Speedway on a fairly regular basis...We've got 3 dedicated racers (and several wanna-be's) (like me) in the club, and we ALL pit for each other. We won first place in the first enduro that we ever entered ! We won with just a 6 minute lead, and THAT was because of the great pit-crew work !
Ever race at Hallet Motor Speedway?
Ever race at Road Atlanta?
Ever race at Texas World Speedway?
Ever race at Texas Motor Speedway?
(I can keep going)
Well, many of us HAVE ! (including me)
So you want to run at Houston Raceway Park?
We were there last year, and not ONE person from my350z.com
showed up, even though we posted it.
It was a real hoot !!!...even when I got my butt kicked by a 9 second Volkswagen Jetta
Sorry to be so irrate, but your inexperienced comments really pushed my button !

I had just asumed that what I said was true....I did check out your web site but I didn't really get any of that from it (about the mods and racing).
Do you have any more pics than the ones on the site?

Hey, JerAnth:
Take a look at the Z Club of Houston website (www.zcar.org).
I'm a member and it's a cool car club. We just finished our Bluebonnet Run this past weekend and is was a lotta fun.
By the way, there are many of us who have modded Z's, so you'll fit right in.

JerAnth (and all)
Sorry. Didn't mean to go postal on you.
Now that I've calmed down, I would like to invite you and anyone else that is interested, to come to our monthly meeting tomorrow night (April 8th).
If you can make it, be sure to look me up and I'll even have a gift for you to kind of "apologize" (don't worry, it won't be ticking).
We're a rather low-key group
, so don't worry about anyone pressuring you to join.
We're having two guest speakers tomorrow night.
One is a representative from Hawke Brake Company, and the other one is the owner of a custom stereo shop.
Next month, we've got the area rep for Yokohama Tires coming to speak.
Yea, we're a little "older" crowd, although we've got a couple of guys that just got their driver's licenses. I'm guessing the average medium age is probably around 35...unfortunately, I'm not one of them !
Although we've got a lot of new members with 350Z's, we're trying to figure out what it's going to take to get all these "younger" Z Owners to come out and play.
As JPCo pointed out, all the information (time, location, etc.) is on our webpage: www.zcar.org
Our next big activity is our Z Extravaganza2 at Sterling McCall Nissan, on April 24th (for pictures of the 2002 Event, go to: http://www.genuinenissanparts.com/ and you'll see why they are our favorite dealership !!!
Looking forward to seeing everyone !

The internet hurts things like clubs, user groups, etc. I bet most people have never heard of a user group. Clubs tend to feel more like an obligation than a release to me personally. I also think that a lot of the 350 folks are younger (read 25-35) and then by definition are probably pretty successful for their age, and then by definition probably seriously overworked, lol. I know that what little free time I get I want to spend with close friends and my girlfriend (especially with the weird hours I work). Anyhow, I've been to a few Capitol of Texas Z club meets, but they were longer and more formal than I wanted them to be for me. I had organized, in the past, very informal meets where we all just meet somewhere, eat, and those who want to would maybe head out for a drive.
Just my view on it, as a 26 year old 350z owner.

I should also note, the flipside doesn't interest me either, a bunch of streetlight racers wanting to go out and do freeway roll races to prove who can push the pedal to the floor the hardest. I do street race when nobody is really around, and the speeds don't reach ridiculous speeds very often, but that's not something I want to seek out to do. It's more something that I know I shouldn't do, but I do every now and again, and I certainly don't need to try and promote it to myself
Rob & Tru...
I appreciate your input. I know that clubs aren't some people's thing...but there are a LOT of new, young Z Car Owners that seem to shy away from an organized club...choosing instead to meet in a parking lot somewhere, on a spur-of-the-moment notice.
My Daughter and her Husband are the same way (about your age)...they don't want to commit to anything. They always wait till the last minute to commit, in case something better comes along. Make a plan and stick with it...but remain flexible...but don't be flat-out rude. Be considerate of other people's plans.
I've never had the chance to go to a Capital Z Meeting, (which I plan to do some day) so I don't know how their meetings are run, but ours are reeeaaalll casual. Yes we follow a routine, but we try to make the meetings fun, interesting, and entertaining. We've been averaging around 40-45 folks/meeting, so I think we're doing something right.
The Z Club of Houston does have regular meetings (2nd Thursday of every month). Many of us consider it a reason to get out, grab a bite to eat, kick tires, maybe have a beer or two and converse with people who have the same addiction that I do ("Hi...my name is David, and I'm a Z-aholic").
Yes, we charge dues. Unfortunately, we haven't figured out a way to make the club pay for itself...but the discounts and freebies you get are usually worth waaaay more than the initial membership fee.
We've done some very informal cruise's of Westheimer. We try to get permission from the parking lot owners, so that when the police show up (and they usually do), we don't get run off or hauled off to jail
Last time, I think we had 26 or 27 Z's show up...it was sooo cool!
We do not promote street racing (but I'm not going to lie to you and tell you it doesn't happen). We do stress safe, courteous driving.
Like I stated before, we're not a high pressure group. When I post things here, that is an invitation to come out and play. We will not "dog" you to join the club. We just like getting lots of Z's together
Hope one day, y'all will do just that

Sounds like your meetings are cool Dave, too bad I'm in Austin. I think that's another part of it. The COTZ meetings are small and mainly older gen Zs. I like the cars, and am interested in all Zs, but they don't seem to have much to say to 350z owners. Honestly I also felt a bit of tension, perhaps because of my age, having a newer Z, etc. I certainly don't think of myself as young, I've been supporting myself through the Air Force and working to earn all I've got, for going on 9 years, but often people assume otherwise I guess. Now that I've gotten way off on a tangent, I'll conclude by saying that next time I'm in Houston, I'll have to try and make it out to see some Houston Z folks again.
Looking forward to meeting you Rob !
Hope you make it down to Houston soon.
I notice the comment that some folks feel that the monthly club meetings are an obligation.
We've got members that have NEVER been to a meeting !
They joined for the discounts we get, and the occasional activity that they enjoy and that's it.
Like I said, we try to provide something for everybody.
I'll now step down off of my soapbox.
Back to the original thread...
We've got an event scheduled at Houston Raceway Park on May 20th. I'll post more information as the time gets closer.

Ive been to one of the Z Club of Houston's meets and it was a total blast. Everything was totally laid back including the ppl that showed. Some strangers in all sorts of cars showed up just to look around. My personal favorite was the cruise down Memorial and Westhiemer. I just cant make their monthly Tuesday night meets because im taking a night class after work and ive been going to Austin for poker tourneys. I'll try and make one of your next meets zcardave. I wanna show off the ATI procharger! And sorry for tring to run you over in the parking lot at Bubbles. lol
Enron,
thanks for the kind words !
We're trying to put together another cruise, now that daylight savings time has kicked in. I'll keep everyone posted.
I hope you win a bazillion dollars at the poker tournament !...but glad you're taking night classes, in case the poker thing doesn't pan out
I'm definately looking forward to seeing your procharger.
Hopefully, on the night you come, Stuart Barnhorst will show up with his Z. He has (literally) everthing Nismo in and on his car that they make.
...and as for you trying to run me over in the parking lot...
just goes to show that a Z is not as quick as everyone thinks.
NOTHING is quite as fast as a terrified pedestrian !
Hope to see you soon,
