I am getting a Utec and dyno tuned on Friday by one of the nation's best Subaru tuners, so I guess we'll see what they can do with a Z....

How does one tune the UTEC? Should tuning be completed by TurboXS trained dealers only? Thanks.

I got my 06 Z Utec'd and dyno tuned on friday. It was such a long day, I don't have the dyno charts with me, so I don't remember my torque numbers. I was tuned by PDX-Tuning, one of the best known tuners in the Subaru world (Tim Baily's STi just put down over 590 whp, last year about 100whp less, he ran very, very low 11s in 1/4)

With a Utec, Random Tech Hi-flow cats, Nismo catback, Perrin Air Filter(same filter as a WRX/STI), and 6200 miles on the clock we settled at 284 whp, we did over 25 pulls, with the last 15 or so all being 283-285 whp. We once hit 289 whp, but had knock around 6100 rpm. This was on 92 octane "grocery" gas. I don't remember the torque numbers, but I want to say the low 250 range. I will get charts and a/f charts up soon.

So the UTEC is around $1,000?? Reading this I was wondering why everyone wasn't doing this ... but for $1,000 I now realize.

That's cheaper than many exhausts.

I didn't get a complete baseline, because I installed my hi-flow cats and catback with three weeks of ownership of the car. I am super busy with college and work, so I haven't contacted the shop for the charts yet. I will keep you all informed and post a new, detailed thread when I get all my charts.

What is needed to plug and play and tune? Do we need to buy any other components that the UTEC offers? Can they tune the car with just the Utec alone?
