Default Bad UTEC

I guess I have purchased a bad UTEC. The tuner that installed it says it goes into limp mode around 4000 rpms. Do you think there will be a problem with turbo XS on a fix?

The tuner called and turbo xs is out of units for estimated 2 weeks. My other option is sending the unit to the place that is was originally purchased and having them send it to turbo xs and send me a new one. But it seems like I will be waiting.

This is the third or fourth thread I've seen recently with exactly the same behavior. Are there really this many bad ones floating around, or is there something else going on? I'm considering buying one very soon, just curious if there is a bigger issue. Every single thread I've read said the same thing, that TurboXS replaced the unit, which is great, but it sounds like you have to actually get it in your car before you find out that you have this problem, since they run on the bench OK from what I've heard. Does anyone from TurboXS frequent the site that could tell us what is going on? I still want one, just wondering how you could tell if your UTEC has this issue before putting it into the car.

Seems like an awfully high failure rate for a lump of electronics with no moving parts. Has anyone ever had one fail after being in the car for a while, or is this all infant mortality?

It does worry me how many bad reports their are about this system. Every thread seems to be problems with the hardware not working, or tuning issues.

ktown z,

Have you spoken with Jermaine at TurboXS yet? I sent my UTEC back to them and just got another brand new one back a couple of days ago.

I thought it was bad as well because when I hooked it up, it did the exact same thing as my first one.

I called up Jermaine and he sent me a new TPS flash file for it. He walked me through it over the phone. Very simple process. As soon as I reflashed it, the car started up and ran perfect.

I think that the majority of the problems out there are firmware/software based and not hardware at all.

Yes it sucks. I have to pay for the tuning prior to figuring out the UTEC is bad and pay for the tuning after I get the new UTEC. I also have to pay for the shipping for the utec to go back. I do know there is a wait for over 2 weeks to get a new utec from turbo xs so my car will be down for a while. The only option is getting my e-manage installed back and waiting for the utec but that will cost me more money.
