Default Trouble connecting to Utec

Set up HyperTerm just like it said...all I get is giberish. I tried different parameters and no luck. With that said it could very well be the adaptor I'm trying to run. I am using a serial to USB adaptor. Could that be the problem??? I really need to datalog cuz i am extremely lean!!!

If you are getting jibberish, it sounds like your baud rate is too slow. Check your port settings in device manager. Under ports, you should see your USB to serial port adapter. Right click the icon then go to properties. You should see a tab called port settings. They should look like your Hyper Terminal settings. If they are not change them accordingly.

Hey Jermaine,

I tried to raise it through device manager. I took it too 19200 and everything else looked correct. I will hopefully get to try again 2ight or definitely 2moro. I'm just wondering if its all messing up because of the adaptor.

You may want to try another serial cable.

I must be missing something because I still cannot connect to the damn thing. I have used 3 different cables and 2 different computers all with the same results.

is there something that has to be done to the Utec? I have a little red button right under my stering column??? no clue as to what that goes to???

I'm pretty certain everything is hooked up correctly as nothing was removed when I picked the car up. Cable was already in place.

have you installed the usb drivers that come on the disk that you have to handselect the file ??

my comp was weird when i first got it till i did that

also if you are using a serial adapter, make sure you use the driver for that

that was another problem when i first got my tuner wideband and had to connect through that

good luck

can you break down what you have and exactly how you are trying to connect to the utec and through what cables.

sometimes it can be tricky to hook up the first time. then it is cake after that...

I went and bought an adapter and loaded the drivers but no luck. Then I used a standard serial cable and tried that. Same results. I have tried several different settings on hyperterm and device manager to make things correct.

For simplicity I would like to continue using the serial cable that came with it. i set the port settings to 19200 bps, 8 Data bits, None parity, 1 Stop bit, None Flow control. These settings are the same through hyperterm and port settings through com1 port in device manager.

I didn't even see the USB port there i will try that later today and see what happens. Are there any special drivers that need to be loaded for the USB?

I have the Innovate Wideband if thats what you are talking about.

nope, look on the utec, it is just the standard usb a to b cable. plug that in, then you will need to go into the device manager and fix the yellow ! for the usb driver, you will have to manually put the driver off the disk that came with the utec. windows will not automatically install the driver even if it is on your computer....

if you dont have the disk you can go get it off turboxs site.

once you have that driver installed you will be able to just click on hyperterminal and set it up. remember to save it as UTEC and throw it on your desktop for easy access...

this should fix your problems!!!

OK I got connected...

Well now more questions...

When I try to get a log it will freeze up on me. I have to unlug the cable then reconnect. How can I get any logs like that? It will go to about 4800 rpms then freeze. What gear do you guys normally make ur WOT logs in? 4th?

you have to capture text. go up to the top, under transfer, then capture text. then name the file and it will record ALL text till you either stop it or turn off your car...

4th gear is fine, 3rd gear the rpms go up every 100 to 120 every step, 4th gear is usually every 20-40 rpms

tried that and it still froze.

I am doing the SHIFT +1 then I pause it then do the capture. It all works great until I am WOT then hit +4800.

I'll keep trying I guess. I don't think its running lean tho. I keep throwing a code and it will not clear. Probably O2 sensor went out causing a weird read...

you actually dont have to hit shift 1, when you are on the first page and you already have capture text on, just hit 1 without a shift. not sure if that causes something different to have but try that....
