UTEC via USB or Serial, a poll
anyone having problems with the length on some of these usb serial adapters? I see some of them are 16" and thats not very long at all considering the placement of the db9
serial cable input on the utec is on the top of the unit.

what? The Serial cable that come with Utec is already pretty long and you add another 3 footer Serial-USB (I see 6 footer out there) cable and that is well over 5 feet long. Do you plan tuning inside your house?

no links. its your serial to usb adapter. they are finicky at best and very few actually work properly. Yours appears to be one that does not work.
you really need to use winxp on a machine for the most troublefree direct access.

Let me shine a light on this topic for some of you. Last night I spent about 3 hours going through drivers for USB to Serial connection. For win7, there is a driver that basically converts the usb signal to serial. The driver masks the usb signal as COM1 - Com64 (if you want to use those ports). Once you set the drivers and you select the same transfer rates ( they should match between hyperterminal and the driver). It connects perfectly fine. Also the M16c Flash software (the old one) is retarded and crashes very often which can lead to bricks. You have to get the new software and flash it that way. I flashed back my utec i got for 50 bucks that was bricked. I will post the software list that I used to get it working with the USB without using any hardware adapter.

When I get home I will make a video on how to flash and unbrick the Utec. As well as what drivers to use and how to config the drivers and the hyperterminal to get it working.
I feel as though TurboXs should pay me something.... : / lol

I used win 7 x64. You dont need to use win XP or 95. Thanks for posting, since it reminded me to get all my files. I will get home and post a link for the new softwares and flash software.
Here is the link for the all the files I was able to dig up on the UTec.

Notes:
I have the updated M16_Flasher in case you brick the unit as well as the flash versions 2.6mot and 2.8d.mot.
Dont use the m16 flasher v124 because its rather unstable. Use version 1.36 which I provided.
I also included several types of hyperterminal applications. The one I used in win7 was HypTerm7. It needs registration but I will leave that up to you....
Hope this helps.
