Default Utec keeps retarding timing

Even on "0" the Utec thinks my car is knocking and keeps retarding the timing on my turbonetics G. Anyone know what's up with that? I take the Utec out and run reflash and the car runs fine on the Dyno. I even turned off the knock sensor and the Utec keeps wanting to retard timing.. Did I get ANOTHER bad unit?

Can you post some logs? Do you have the tuner wideband?

Knock sensitivity too high for FI? Have you been tuned by a pro already?

are you talking about the 0% load column? Depending on what your parameters are, you might actually be knocking. I have found the utec knock feature to be pretty decent. Maybe you could paste a log for us to see... then we can try to pinpoint the problem.

Do you have a light weight flywheel?
Loose Exhaust?
What is your knock sensitivity set to?

downshift,

which engine have? I have a revup, TN and UTEC. I keep getting knock counts even with a Fat A:F and REALLY conservative timing. The stock ECU is picking up the knock....its timing isn't changing. It happens in the 4500-5500 range. Could that be the range where the ECU is shifting the cam timing? could the UTEC be picking up that noise?

look at a data log of what the stock ECU is doing, and see if where its knocking the stock ECU is pulling timing as well.

If its not pullin timing, have the utec do it. My stock timing was knockin at +27 from 6000 rpm's to 7000.. Pulled stock timing -1 and that took care of it.. Try that it should work..

In the datalog you will see 2 columns, timing that the ECU WANTS to run, and timing the the UTEC is running....If his UTEC is pulling timing and the same spot the Stock ECU is not pulling timing then you know it is not real knock. this is best observed in several back to back runs and saved datalogs. The stock ECU will retard it's own timing, to an extent..We really need datalogs to help you out.

I have looked at both. in most cases, the stock ECU does nothing. But the UTEC is registering a knock count of "8."

I have seen some occasions where the UTEC is not registering any knock, but the ECU is retarding timing by about 6 degrees. odd, huh?

your knocking, or picking up tons of noise from the flywheel..I would rtetune the car, what is your A/F and timing set at where it knocks and what are your mods..Keep in mind, the 4500-4700 rpm area is where the car makes peak TQ, you want your timing and A/F to be really perfect in that area.

I have a stock flywheel. I figured that they are quiter than the 1 piece aftermarket flywheels.

BTW, Thanks for all your responses. I definately appreciate it.

isn't there a way to shield the knock sensor wire to prevent interference from a flywheel? I intend to run a fidanza and don't want to come into issues with this!

So is it safe to say that my ECU IS NOT pullin timing based on this log and the log on the next post??
