Hey fellas..

I have decided to have a friend of mine write up a nice little GUI interface for the utec/tuner. The software will totally replace Hyperterminal as far as logging and changing values. What I need from everyone who is willing to contribute is to let me know what functions you would like in the program to help make tuning this car easier.

The interface is being written as I type this so the more info, realistic would be nice the better..

well. this is GREAT!! cant wait to try it out, i would work on a Target Air Fuel Ratio. this could take the tuner wideband signal and simply alter the fuel tables to bring it closer to that AFR. i would just have a simple gain adjustment to turn it up or tame it down...

of course a windows based GUI will be a great start in the right direction.

The ability to read/import Cipher WB readings on the GUI dashboard and log them.

Also, start and stop target RPM for logging, this way we don't have to touch the keyboard after a run.

Data log lab's GUI has a dyno feature. I'm not sure how well it works, but it would be a great tool if it would reflect gains/losses even if the numbers weren't accurate. Not sure how difficult this would be, but you asked.

Anyway, you might try downloading their demo to get an idea of other features:

Take a look at UTI (http://www.dezignduo.com/UTI/phpBB2/index.php) its a free download and has some cool features for triggering logs, target A/F etc.

Also, look at mps_uteclogger (also a free download). It has fewer features but has been very useful to me in logging and tuning. It has the ability to read the a/f via the AEM UEGO on a seperate port and bridge the data with the UTEC logs so that the UTEC Tuner modules are not really necessary.

 

It still will not bridge the OEM widebands. I tried that program w/Cipher running. It would be great to use the OBDII/USB cable to read the factory wide bands. That way no aftermarket wide bands nor welding needed.

 

Converting numbers to graphs with colors to show if you are on target or off.
The simple green. yellow, red would also help. Green = on target, yellow = over target value, Red = under target value. Say target A/F is 12.8 and you ran that though most of your rpm band but then went to 13.2, those numbers would be in yellow highlight and so on. I was just thinking when you are analizing lots of data it would be easy to see holes in the maps if they where in color when looking at a glance.

As I understand it (and I could have read bad info), currently the MPS UTEC Logger does work, at least partially, with the 350Z UTEC when used in "Evo" mode (see this my350z forum for details).

Most of these features are going to be things that people want, especially the LogMap feature, which shows gradiant-coded values across rpm and load site.

The AFR Target Ratio feature would be awesome. But please keep us in the loop as to what formulas you guys use to compute this. I've put a LOT of thought into exactly this feature these last few weeks. I've been messing with data in excel, etc trying to see what a valid target ratio weighting system would look like. The tough part will be defining a correlation that accounts for and factors out variance due to individual differences (from car to car). You have a stats guy working with you, along with the developer? I wish I could say I know more than basic level stats but I'm lazy and let Excel do a lot of the work for me these days.

I'd recommend picking up a copy (ahem) of SPSS Stats program, which has an Excel-style graphic interface. It lets you do some pretty powerful correlational analysis as well as factor analysis. This could come in hand when building the AFR Target feature.

dude, we're definitely NOT talking about factory wideband units here

we're talking about using AEM or Innovate wideband systems to feed a signal to the utec.

chimmike...You can laugh at me...I brought up the idea about using the OEM wide bands for those 04.5 + cars. It would great log the OEMs into the UTEC log via the OBDII/USB cable. At the same time another cable is plugged into the UTEC. For those that can, no aftermarket wide bands needed, and easier tuning by not reading two logs.
