Default N/A tuning question..

Sorry for the basic question but I've searched and don't see the answer. Can you tune on the factory computer or do you have to have an aftermarket system like UTEC or Fcon? And if you can what are the pro/cons? Thanks

there's other methods:
-AAM /Technosqaure reflash (you need to goto their shop, or send in your ECU for them to re-flash it). I know with AAM, if you tell them all of your mods and send in your ECU, they re-flash according to your mods (they have kept records of past cars they've tuned in-house.)

-Utec/Greddy...(you buy their unit and then tune it or pay someone to tune it)

Peter, thanks for the info. Do you lose any of the settings if you reset your ECU?

nope-you don't loose anything doing a re-set. You can even have them raise the rev limiter, idle and a few other things (regarding the re-flash)

Is it not better to find a place that does the flash on a dyno rather than sending it to them? I know that all cars are a little different.

Thanks for the info again it was very helpful

I've seen a car with a TS reflash on the dyno, and it had a pretty nice air/fuel ratio, about 13 all the way to redline... I have no idea what they did about timing though.

But reflash (if done properly) is a great mod, just not as FLEXIBLE as a custom tune.

If you want flexibility, don't get a reflash, because you have to pay to get re-reflashed if you change your mods.

not that many places have the ability to do reflashes for the Z...only other option would be to buy a Utec or other device and then tune it myself or pay someone to tune it.

My plan is to get all of my modes done by mid winter, then get the dyno/reflash done until it's good...after that, autoX season starts and I'll have plenty of other stuff to work on.
