Default UTEC and cipher

I have a 35th Z and I'm near going for an UTEC, I wonder if I just can use cipher for datalogin the O2 OEM widebands or I will need the TURBOXS tuner kit? I'm doing the tuning myself.

They are near the same price, I know that the turner kit has to be better for A/F logs but its harder to install than using cipher, and of course I can still using cipher for other things...

As long as you're staying N/A the factory widebands and cipher are fine. If you go turbo then your AFR will be too rich and the factory widebands can't pick up the correct signal.

But take it from me... it's about 50 times faster and easier just to get the thing tuned on a dyno...

Plus things like going uphill versus downhill (slightly) can affect things like timing. I don't recommend changing any timing adjustments on the street.

It's going to be a pain in the *** to datalog a WOT run with cipher, pull over, connect to the UTEC, make some changes (MAF pull-up/pull-down for example), and then drive again, make another WOT run, check the datalog again...

Cipher is a good tool but in order to view the data accurately you need to use a program like Microsoft Excel.

If you have a friend in your car, you can have him/her hold the laptop and tell them when to start datalogging, stop, plot data in excel, etc.

Basically for street tuning, you will want 2 people for sure.

But I still recommend doing it on a dyno...

If you're going UTEC, go Tuner no doubt. I picked up my Tuner Pro-Bosch for $225 shipped brand spanking new off another car forum. If you want, i can help you look for one at or better than the price i got mine for? Last time i checked, there were a few people trying to unload these on the Evo boards for VERY cheap.

^^ Tuner Reg is MUCH easier to come across. Let me do some searching and see if can't score you a great deal. What do they cost new again? Like around $400 or something right??

If you want to install the O2 wideband from tuner, you have to make a hole in the exhaust...any extra hardware is needed or the O2 sensor suporting nut (or what ever) is supplied? you have to weld it, isn't it?

I have seen a wide variety of prices for the UTEC, from 700$ to 1000$...are all the same? is there any different old version that could be cheaper?
