Default Utec Dilemma

Hey forum, I'm kinda confused on my situation. I just got my Utec installed and tuned today. I put down 250hp and 237tq. My pull with no Utec got me 245hp 230tq. I only got 5hp and 7tq out my utec tune. Look in my sig to see all my breathing mods. I have the rev-up engine too. My buddies up here in Colorado are throwing down bigger numbers then me and they have less mods, where is my power at!?!?!?

P.S my A/F ratio and timing are dead on.

It would be helpful to us if we could take a look at either your logs or the dyno sheet with the A/F readings.. This would help us determine where, if any, your power loss is..

usually when u tune your car...the fuel management just smooths out your a/f ratio so you have a consistent hp/tq curve.. and if u r at 13...leaning it out would net you a bit more hp/tq ....

Yes, my tuner did try that and i run a very consistant 249-250 hp and 235-237 tq every run. He went lean, he went rich, he went more timing, he went less timing. Im happy that my car isn't running lean now but we were hoping for more like 260 hp and 250 tq. Any ideas anyone? Mrev 2 have anything to do with this?

Part of your dilema is probably your altitude.

cars can dyno 15-20 hp less or more from day to day depending on the outside conditions, i had a dyno day on a nice cool dry day and then when people bring their cars back for me to tune now that its hotter, they put down a lot less and i spend hours trying to get it back to the number they got on the dyno day.

is the car faster, again, another reason i say GO to the track!!!! trap speeds dont lie and cant be corrected...

keep in mind that the rev-ups adapt more readily to breathing mods so your gains may be less than a buddies with a non-rev-up. The absolute dyno # will fluctuate so I don't know you should worry too much about those.

yea, i understand what your guys are saying. I know that your dyno numbers will fluctuate. Are you saying that the rev-ups will make bigger gains from breathing mods, but less when the Utec tune is made?

that's one way to think about it. the bottom line is that while a single dyno may be "consistent" it may not be "accurate". Unless each and every one has been calibrated against a control, there is no way to say your running low numbers. for all you know, you could go to a dyno down the street and make 280 to the wheels...

I really don’t have much knowledge on car tuning, for I have never had a car to fully modify until now. I always had four door slow rollers. Yet, I am into tuning of bikes, I have had 3 fully tuned but I know you dont care about the details. I will tell you this dyno’s vary tremendously.. You can dyno the same vehicle in the mourning and in the afternoon and get major differences. This is why at every dyno challenge I went in the mourning. Always put down harder and stronger. I do know this for a fact, It doesn’t matter if its a vehicle or bike, a dyno is for tuning. Taking a number and improving that number, not caring what the number is because that varies. I care more about the improvements between each tune. I was never discouraged by the final number and comparing to my friends or what ever.. because every dyno is different and every motor is different. Just be thankful for improvement over baseline.
