Is it possible to run to lean by doing a bunch of bolt-on mods and not getting a piggyback tune or even a flash?
reason i ask.... I have done a few mods, want to do a few more before laying down the bucks for a Emanage Ultimate and tune. Rather just do everything and tune/dyno once. Is this a bad idea? I know its not going to perform to max capabilities until the tune is complete, however am I putting anything into danger? ie: valves, burnt piston, O2

If you were "too lean" you would get a CEL.
I have never seen any car with bolt-ons only that went dangerously lean...
That said, you will always get better HP and driving feel with tuning

You won't go too lean. However, you will likely run rich as hell at WOT. With the UTECs and Emanages, most people are now seeing that NA modded cars are running rich at WOT. Same goes for stock cars. However, every car is different.
Personally, if I were you, I would go straight to the UTEC. From my experience, I put NA power mods in the following order:
1. UTEC
2. Flywheel
3. Crawford plenum
4. High flow cats
And then move on to other things. You get the most early bang for the buck this way.
