Patch harness question. Very early ecu versions
Does the very early 1st year Zs have different ecu connectors than the rest of the Z line? My G35 sedan apparently has this "Type I" version ecu (grey connector). Looks more like a VQ35 maxima connector vs a 03.5+ G35 ecu connector (which appears to be black)
If you guys have indeed had this same problem, what was the solution?

If you can take a good picture, I might be able to help you as I've spent several hours staring at my patch harness with the EU
But most likely, it's the same thing even if it's a different color. I used a 2003 service manual to guide me in setting up the different connections, and I have an 05.

I haven't actually examined mine yet. But here is a picture of another early G owner's ecu connector (that had the same problem with his early G). I assume (for now) his = mine. He was having a problem with an Unichip install but the problem is universal. Top(grey) G ecu harness. Bottom (black) Unichip harness (looks like the newer Z/G connector)

The harness issues was only on early production G35 Sedans. All Z's and G Coupes use the correct harness. Just look up under the passenger side footwell. You should see a long black connector with a lever bar in it. You can even pull it off without taking any panels off. There is a small latch that need to be pushed in on the side that faces you. Press that in and pull the lever down towards the firewall. Be sure to disconnect your battery first just to be on the safe side.

From what I'm gathering, the way to do it is this. You have to custom make a patch harness that goes inbetween the stock harness and ecu. So you need to gut a spare ecu (for the connector) and another stock G wiringing harness (for the other end). Then solder in the wires to the correct sockets. From there you splice in the emanage harness into your new patch.
This is one done for a maxima application. Note the grey connectors? That's the color of my ecu connector from what I read. This is similar to what I'd have to do. A HUGE pain.
