You will generally tune under a certain set of conditions based on one map the stock ECU is running and hope when the ECU switches maps or compensates for changes it will not throw your piggyback tune off too much. But you never know for sure. That is why standalones are much more predictable, especially for higher boost where the margin for error is very small.
UTEC in stand alone?

Yes. You can set the threshold where the UTEC completely takes over from the stock ECU (load based with full, exact control of timing and fuel; not offsets from the ECU signals). This allows your tuner to find the optimum balance between full control under load and stock ECU-like driveability at cruising, low load, etc.

I think utec works better as a 'blend'. I tried utec in stand alone... It does work, but was a little 'jerky' as it transitioned across rpm's and loadpoints... So I set my TPS threshold back to 25%, and RPM threshold back to 2000. I did leave the tune in the 0% column from 5000 rpm and up though (to address shift knock). Pretty smooth now.

Edit: I'm NA.

The emanage blue tunes the car by tricking the MAF voltage input to the ECU I think.

The emanage ultimate for example, changes injector pulse width... much more reliable.

I do believe that the ECU tries to tune out the EM blue's trickery.

And I do believe that if a motor blows, it's not the UTEC's fault, but the tuner or installer's fault...

hmmm sounds good then.

When I get the special cable to connect to my laptop, is there a "reset" to default settings feature? I ask because I purchased the unit that was already tuned to a TT set-up and I am a N/A with a few bolt-ons.

If I were to do this, then would there be any advantages of it just being hooked up, or not since it is at "default" settings? Anything to worry about with driving the car on default settings?

Also, are there any "quick" street tuning tips that anyone could give me? I'm obviously a n00b to tuning, and I know that I can screw something up badly with even the smallest mistake, but anything basic that could be done or learned by an amateur?
